Possibly 1910-11 Parade
postcard
c1910 Carnival Procession
The Fire Brigade's 1907 Steamer passing Horsley's & Ward's Corner,
drawn by two white horses.

c1911
c1911 Carnival Procession
The same Steamer passing Battersby's, but pulled by two dark horses.

We have this photograph of a parade without a date. The banner centre of the picture reads "God Bless Our Queen". The shop next to the thatched property of A Robinson has a board above the windows "Meadows and Ratley". By studying the trade directories we find that Harvey Meadows, fishmonger was trading there from 1898 to 1908. In 1908 Mr Ratley, fishmonger was at 82 High Street. In the 1910 trade directory we find them together at number 17 High Street. So we think this must be from the 1911 Parade to celebrate the Coronation of King George V and Queen Mary. Perhaps a banner for the King was elsewhere in the parade? Certainly the dress is of that period.

If you have a copy of this postcard with a caption - we'd be grateful to hear from you.
