Rushden House - staff

Rushden Echo, 26th November 1915, transcribed by Kay Collins

Recruit - Wm Orpin, who was for three years in service as footman at Rushden House, has enlisted in the 18th Battalion King’s Royal Rifles, and joins at Brighton on Tuesday. He will be sent to Winchester.

Promotion—William Orpin, formerly footman at Rushden House, left for France on March 20th. He is serving in the King’s Royal Rifles, and, although he has only been in the Army for 16 months, has already risen to the rank of sergeant. We all wish him the best of luck, and a safe return.

Extract from 1917 obituary - William Clayton - For very many years he was gardener to the late Mrs. Currie, of Rushden House, and later he was employed in a similar capacity by Mr. James Jaques and Mr. Charles Claridge.
Extract from 1944 obituary ...........Mr Wood came to Rushden at the age of 18 and was a groom for the late Mr H W Currie at Rushden House for several years.
