The community of Rushden would like to take this opportunity to welcome our young visitors from Kampen in Holland and particularly to thank them for donating a tree to the Manor Park project as an act of international friendship.

Wij willen bij deze gelegenheid de jounge gasten van Kampen in Nederland. Welko'm heten en vooral bedanken voor de gift van een boom aan Monor Park als een acte van internationale vriendschap.

Manor Park, Rushden

The site now known as Manor Park, lies adjacent to the A6 on the southern approach to Rushden and was the domestic refuse tip for the former Urban District Council for Rushden; it was last used as a refuse tip in the late 1960's.

The southern part of the site was developed for the use of rugby football and two full sized pitches are now well established together with a training area. The remainder of the site has been levelled, capped- with inert material, mainly soil and has been left to naturalise with grasses, a variety of scrub and other vegetation.

The District Council in conjunction with the Rotary Club of Rushden with the support of a local garden centre agreed in October 1991 to establish a formal pocket park, best described as a "managed wilderness" and is anticipated that works will be undertaken to plant up to 1,400 seedling trees in the latter part of 1992 and early 1993.

The official launching of the Manor Park project will take place on the 26 November 1992 to coincide with Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth's Accession to the Throne 40 years ago, but it is also appropriate that this project should recognise the links that the district is forging with the international community.

The Rotary Club of Rushden has been associated with the Rotary Club of Kampen in Holland for a number of years and this August sees the visit of 18 children from the Kampen Club to Rushden. They will bring with them trees as a gift to the town and their planting in Manor Park encompasses the spirit of the pocket park.
