The Enclosure

The first meeting was arranged at the Green Dragon at Higham Ferrers at 11 o’clock on the 6th April 1778 and there William Pywell & Daniel Eaton & Tresham Chapman swore an oath and were duly appointed as the Commissioners to oversee the Inclosure Award for Rushden.
They had given public notice in Church on Sunday 29th March after divine service and a notice was pinned to the south door of the Church.
The area to be divided was 3425 acres and 32 perches and included roads and the highway.

Rushden Inclosure - The Commissioners give Notice to the Public in general, and Proprietors of Lands and Estates in and near Rushden in particular, That Duplicates of the List and Description of the several Public Roads, by them staked out, in, over, through, and upon, the Open and Common-Field Lands, directed by the Act of Parliament to be Divided and Inclosed, are affixed upon Rushden Church Door, and also lodged at the Swan-and-Dolphin Inn, in Rushden, for their Examination and Inspection. Any Person or Persons, have objection to any of the said Roads, or any Part or Parts thereof, are desired to deliver the same in Writing to the said Commissioners at their Meeting, which will be held at the Green Dragon Inn, in Higham Ferrers, on Wednesday the 9th Day of September next.
