The Manor of Rushden with the members in the County of Northampton to wit: The Court Baron of our Most Gracious Sovereign Lord King William the Fourth Lord of the said Manor held at Rushden in and for the said Manor on Friday the twenty sixth day of May in the seventh year of His Reign and in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty seven Before George BURNHAM Gentleman Deputy Steward to Edward BOUVERIE Esquire Steward of the said Manor

Richard STEVENS on the surrender of Bryan STEVENS & William TAILBY

At this Court it was found and presented by the Homage that Bryan STEVENS of Hallaton in the County of Leicester Grazier and William TAILBY of Humberstone in the said County of Leicester Grazier customary tenants of the said Manor by their surrender bearing date the twelfth day of January now last past in consideration of the sum of Five shillings apiece to them in hand paid by Richard STEVENS of Colleyweston in the County of Northampton Farmer did out of Court surrender by the rod into the hands of the Lord of the said Manor by the hands and acceptance of Thomas BROWN of Uppingham in the County of Rutland Gentleman Deputy Steward of Edward BOUVERIE Esquire Steward of the Manor according to the custom thereof All that messuage tenement or farmhouse situate standing and being at the North end of Rushden in the County of Northampton with the yards barns stables and garden and homestead thereto adjoining and belonging containing together three roods and thirteen perches (were the same more or less) And also all that close of pasture land or ground (adjoining the last described premises) containing one acre two roods and twenty perches (were the same more or less) And also all that other close piece or parcel of pasture land or ground situate lying and being at the North end of Rushden aforesaid then late Mary MASON North and then late Richard WARD South And also all that other close piece or parcel of pasture land or ground situate lying and being at the said North end of Rushden aforesaid then late John GOBBY South Which said two last described closes pieces or parcels of land or ground contained together Three acres one rood and sixteen perches (were the same more or less) And also all that the scite or ground whereon a messuage formerly stood and close of pasture ground adjoining the same situate lying and being in Rushden aforesaid then late John DENTON North and then late Thomas MALLERY South And also all that little Pightle little close or orchard adjoining to and formerly belonging to the dwellinghouse of Thomas WARD of Rushden aforesaid and then of --- --- --- and purchased by the said Thomas WARD by Thomas STEVENS deceased the Grandfather of the Surrenderer And also all that ancient inclosure in the town of Rushden aforesaid bounded on the South by an old inclosure then lately belonging to Samuel MEE upon the inclosure of Rushden aforesaid exchanged with the said Richard STEVENS deceased and on the North by an old inclosure then belonging to John WRIGHT containing two roods and fourteen perches then late the property of Benjamin KIDNEY Esquire and by the Award of the Commissioners upon the said inclosure allotted to the said Richard STEVENS deceased in lieu of and in exchange for the third Copyhold allotment awarded to the said Richard STEVENS containing three roods and six perches which the said Commissioners did assign award and appoint unto the said Benjamin KIDNEY for such exchange as aforesaid And also all that close of ancient inclosure adjoining to the farm homestead of the said Richard STEVENS deceased bounded on the South and North by the last described ancient inclosure containing two roods and twenty eight perches then late the property of the said Samuel MEE and by the said Award assigned awarded and appointed to the said Richard STEVENS deceased in lieu of and in exchange for the fourth Copyhold allotment awarded to the said Richard STEVENS deceased containing three roods and twenty six perches which the said Commissioners did assign award and appoint unto the said Samuel MEE for such exchange as aforesaid And also all that close piece or parcel of land or ground known by the name of the Clay Close situate lying and being in a certain field in Rushden aforesaid before the said inclosure called the Black Fen Field containing Nineteen acres and thirteen perches (were the same more or less) bounded on the North by lands then late of --- --- PIERCE and then of --- --- --- on the West by a Freehold close called Broad Lands Close and then intended to be conveyed to the said Richard STEVENS the Surrenderer On the East by the next described close and on the South by lands late then of --- --- FOX and then of --- --- ---  And also all that close piece or parcel of land called or known by the name of the Hand Cross Close containing thirty three acres and sixteen perches (were the same more or less) adjoining and bounded by the last described Close on the West by the next described Close on the East by lands late of the said --- --- PIERCE and then of --- --- --- on the North and by lands then late of --- --- FOX and --- --- HOOPER and then of --- --- --- on the South And also all that close piece or parcel of land or ground called or known by the name of Far Close containing twenty six acres two roods and thirty one perches (were the same more or less) adjoining and bounded on the West by the last described close On the North East by the Lordship of Higham Ferrers On the South by lands then late of the said --- --- HOOPER and then of --- --- --- Which said three last described closes of land or ground were allotted and awarded to the said Richard STEVENS deceased in three allotments pieces or parcels containing respectively one acre, fifty acres and twenty-nine acres three roods and eight perches And also all that close piece or parcel of land or ground known by the name of the Lower Meadow situate lying and being in a certain field in Rushden aforesaid before the said inclosure called the Meadow and Brook Field  containing eleven acres two roods and thirty two perches (were the same more or less) bounded on the North by the river Nen On the South by the next described close on the East by the lands then late of --- --- FLETCHER  and then of --- --- --- and on the West by lands then late of --- --- SMITH and then of --- --- --- And also all that close piece or parcel of land or ground called or known by the name of the Upper Meadow containing ten acres one rood and thirty three perches (were the same more or less) adjoining and bounded on the North by the last described close On the South by the next described close on the East by Lands then late of the said --- --- FLETCHER and then of --- --- --- and on the West by the lands then late of the said ---  --- SMITH and then of --- --- --- And also all that other close piece or parcel of land or ground situate lying and being in Rushden aforesaid in the said Meadow and Brook Field containing three acres one rood and six perches (were the same more or less) bounded on the North by the last described close On the South by the Turnpike road leading from Wellingborough to Higham Ferrers On the East by lands then late of the said --- --- FLETCHER and then of --- --- --- and on the West by lands then late of the said --- --- SMITH and then of --- --- --- Which said three last described closes pieces or parcels of land or ground were allotted or awarded to the said Richard STEVENS deceased on the said inclosure in two allotments or parcels containing respectively Twenty five acres one rood and twenty eight perches and three roods and six perches And also all other the messuages or tenements lands hereditaments and premises (if any) then late the property of the said Richard STEVENS deceased situate standing lying and being in Rushden aforesaid To all which customary or copyhold hereditaments and premises the said Bryan STEVENS and William TAILBY were admitted tenants at a Court held in and for the said Manor on the ninth day of May one thousand eight hundred and twenty eight as Divisees in trust thereof  named in the last Will and Testament of Richard STEVENS late of Rushden aforesaid farmer deceased bearing date the sixteenth day of November one thousand eight hundred and sixteen upon the trusts of the said will being trusts for securing the payment to the Widow and four Children of the said Testator named in his said Will if five equal sixth parts of the value of his real and personal Estates as therein mentioned and subject thereto for the said Richard STEVENS the second son of the said Testator his heirs and assigns and which said Richard STEVENS the son having fully paid and satisfied to the said Widow and four children the said five sixth equal parts had become entitled to have the said Copyhold or Customary hereditaments and premises surrendered to the use and manner thereinafter expressed Together with all and singular houses outhouses edifices buildings barns stables dovecotes dove houses yards gardens orchards homesteads crofts hedges ditches fences walls trees wood underwood ways paths passages waters watercourses ponds wells pumps and all and all manner of other rights members privileges advantages commodities appendages and appurtenances whatsoever to the said messuage or tenement lands hereditaments and premises belonging or in anywise appertaining And the reversion and reversions remainder and remainders rents issues and profits thereof And all the Estate right titles interest use trust property inheritance possession claim and demand whatsoever both at law and in equity of them the said Bryan STEVENS and William TAILBY and of each of them therein and thereto To the absolute use and behoof of the said Richard STEVENS the surrenderer his heirs and assigns forever at the Will of the Lord according to the custom of the said Manor Now to this Court came the said Richard STEVENS in his own proper person and humbly prayed of the Lord of the said Manor to be admitted Tenant to the premises aforesaid with the appurtenances To whom the Lord of the said Manor by his aforesaid Deputy Steward the said George BURNHAM hath granted seisin thereof by the Rod To have and to hold the said hereditaments and premises with the appurtenances unto the said Richard STEVENS his heirs and assigns forever at the will of the Lord according to the custom of the said Manor by fealty suit of Court fines rents and other customs and services anciently due and of right accustomed And for such his admission he hath given unto the Lord for a fine as appears in the margin and so saving always the right of the Lord and of all persons whosoever the said Richard STEVENS was admitted tenant in manner aforesaid but his fealty was respited because &c……………
