Rushden Urban District Council
Plans 1956 - 1957
Plans being passed or discussed (in date order)

The Rushden Echo and Argus, 10th February 1956

Council Plans 42 Garages
A record batch of 42 garages will be built to the order of Rushden Urban Council at Fosse Green, on the Upper Queen Street site.

The scheme, which is subject to loan sanction, will cost £7,400. The council estate it will serve contains 410 post-war homes.

Another project fixed at Wednesday’s meeting of the council was a housing programme for the year. It comprises 58 houses, 12 one-bedroom flats and 11 bungalows. The bungalows will be on a site recently cleared between Little Street and Park Road.

“An assumed rate of 16s” – apparently a forecast – was mentioned in a finance report which led to the raising from £10 to £18 of the rateable value limit on which landlords are rated and receive a 15 per cent discount for prompt payment. Valuation Court sittings to hear appeals against the new assessments, will be held at Rushden “as soon as possible.”

Mrs. W. M. Lean and Mr. J. E. Wills complimented the Surveyor Mr. A. Millar, on the road-clearing and sanding operations during the recent hard weather.
