The Rushden Parochial Committee are just now in a somewhat serious difficulty, owing to the breakdown of the scavenging system. We are informed that the contractor, who has recently resigned, received £3 10s. per week for the carrying on of the work. He consented to continue his duties for a fortnight at £5 a week until fresh arrangements could be made, but at the expiration of that period he absolutely refused to continue the work on any terms whatever. A similar decision was come to by the men in his employ, and the consequence is that the collection of house refuse, &c., is completely at a standstill, and the Parochial Committee have issued a circular during the week announcing their temporary inability to fulfil the requirements of the town. It is to be hoped on the score of health, that the cessation of operations will be brief.
