‘Risdene’ Bill was Nearly £15,000
A report before yesterday’s meeting of Northamptonshire County Council stated that the final cost of adapting and extending the “Risdene” home was £14,958.

Road estimates included £1,000 for work near the Wymington turn and £6,500 for alterations at the junction of Skinner’s Hill with A.6.

Contract price for the improvement near “The Compasses” was £9,829.

Regarding Rushden’s one-way traffic system, it was reported that the Ministry was considering which of the proposed routes should become trunk roads and whether High Street should revert to the status of a country road. When the decisions are received the county roads and bridges committee will make orders covering the lengths of road for which it is responsible.

The education committee asked for authority to spend £4,400 on additional accommodation at Knuston Hall Adult Education Centre. This was in addition to sums already sanctioned.

A sum of £100 was sought, in addition to £1,100 already authorised, for two tennis courts at the Moor Road Youth Centre.

Three hundred pounds was added to £1,200 for the South End School playground.

Fire brigade switchboard work is being centralised at Kettering. Switchboard operators at Rushden and Wellingborough will go on to other duties.
