Smith & Walker
Two traps collide

A COLLISION occurred at Ward’s Corner on Tuesday afternoon between two traps, though happily the damage was lighter than appeared inevitable.

Mr. Smith, of Cromwell-road, was engaged in his field in Newton-road with his horse and cart, cutting hay, when the animal bolted and dashed down Newton-road at a rapid pace.

Mr. S. Walker, of Park-road, was driving up Church-street, and when at the cross-roads Mr. Smith’s horse and cart came into collision with Mr. Walker’s.  The shafts of Mr. Walker’s cart were smashed, but the driver, seeing a collision was inevitable, jumped off and escaped injury.  Mr. Smith’s cart was overturned, and the horse, freeing itself from the harness, bolted down Church-street, where it was stopped by a man who was passing at the time.  The horse was taken to Mr. A. Robinson’s stables, and was kept there until the next day.
