Harold Sharwood
A Serious Accident

A serious accident happened yesterday week at the factory of Messrs. G. Selwood and Co., to Harold Sharwood, aged 16, son of Mr. F. J. Sharwood a member of the firm. Master Sharwood, while working a heel compressor, was putting on a heel, which apparently did not go on straight, and he attempted to straighten it when the machine gripped his left hand. The first two fingers were crushed very severely. The patient was taken to Dr. Owen’s surgery, and it was found that amputation of the fingers at the knuckle was necessary, the operation being carried out at the Cottage Hospital. It is a remarkable fact that the patient throughout neither fainted nor cried out.
