Goose For Dinner

Rushden House Sanatorium was one of the most gaily decorated places in the town at Christmas. Sisters, nurses and patients all helped to deck it out. About 30 of the patients had Christmas leave and 40 remained. All these had presents from the matron (Miss Williams). Goose and plum pudding were served for dinner, and the meal was presided over by Mr. P. J. Sharwood, C.C. (chairman of the Sanatorium Sub-Committee), who toured the wards in company with Mrs. Sharwood and Miss Sharwood. In the afternoon the sisters gave tea parties for the staff, their guests including the medical superintendent (Dr. G. H. Lord) and the matron.

The nurses held a dance on Tuesday night, and a whist drive for the patients was also on the Christmas programme. All at the Sanatorium were delighted with the visits paid by the St. Cecilia Singers on Saturday and the Salvation Army Band on Christmas Day.
