A gift to a new hospital unit is sure to bring colour back to its elderly patients.

Mrs Audrey Perkins, district organiser for the WRVS in Rushden, presented a 26-inch colour television to the new unit at the town’s hospital.

Mr Ronald Barker, charge nurse for the wing, received the television this week.  The unit, which is geared to take 20 out patients a day, will open on Monday.  It is called Rushden House Day Hospital.

Dr J. A. Leitch, district community physician, was at the ceremony at Rushden hospital along with other medical staff.

Mrs Perkins said: “We have been saving up for a year or two.  The money was from the profits of our trolley shop, which we take to the hospital every week.

“The money we raise has to be put back into the hospital.  We have been saving frantically to get enough money together for the television.”
