Article by Kay Collins - After-Care Committee Bowls Tournament Committee Minute Book - deposited in the Northamptonshire Record Office

Rushden TB After-Care
Bowls Tournament

Although the competition was started in 1947, the minute book from 1968 to 1979
is the only one deposited at Northamptonshire Record Office. The first page of the
book records the amounts raised for the After-Care Fund each year and shows that
it ran until 1997.The lists of teams entered show the shoe factories that had
teams taking part and some were entering several teams each.

Finals

MR F King kindly offered the Town Green for the Finals. Eatons green had been very poor last year. This was really due to the greensman. There was much discussion. Eatons had kindly lent us that green for more than 20 years. Also such a good position. Mr Sinfield hoped it would be better this year. It was decided to defer this until the next meeting, with grateful thanks to Mr King. This was proposed by Mr Dickens and agreed by All.

Secretary was asked to write to the President of N B A (Mr Cooper, Islip) to present competition prizes to winning team and to Dr Fisher for the losing team.

Prizes [no reference is made to letters C or W against these]

Shoes - C – Mr Colton  W - Messrs Grenson
Shoes       – Denbros  W – Messrs J White
Shoes – C – Jaques & Clark C – B Denton
Shoes - C – Tecnic Shoe Co. W – C W Horrell

There being no further business the Chairman closed the meeting.           E Mayes May 13th

Minutes of the meeting held on May 13th /68

Mr Mayes Presiding
Apologies were received from Mr Colton & Mr Middleton
Minutes of Previous Meeting were read, approved & signed by the Chairman.
There were 49 Rinks entered for the 1968 Tournament. This was less than last year but 2 Clubs had disbanded.
(Dates) & Skips names were drawn once again by numbers & would be printed at once & sent to the various Clubs.
Corresponding No. Books were handed out to members of the Committee.
After much discussion, it was decided unanimously to play the Finals on the Eatonian Green, Duck Street.
We had played the Finals there for 21 years. The green is much better condition than last year & it is hoped to be good on that night.

The Chairman thanked Mr F King for inviting us to the Town Green & Secretary was asked to write a letter to Mr King.
Secretary would get plaques for Mr Mayes’ approval.
Chairman closed the meeting with hopes for a very successful Tournament once again.
Mr McPherson presented the Ladies Runners up prizes, congratulated the Winners & said the runners up too had played a grand game & hoped they would win next year.

Net Balance of £114.16.7

The net balance showed a decrease of £25 over last year. This was mostly due to the weather which caused less Corres. No. tickets to be sold. It was still felt 1968 had been a successful year. Also the Whist Drive had been omitted as we can no longer use Messrs Eatons Canteen for this purpose.
Mr C Jones proposed £100 to be paid to Rushden Care Committee - Seconded by Mr Sinfield & agreed by all.
Secretary would make enquiries re a Whist Drive in December to enable us to acquire a larger Balance in Hand for 1969.
Mr Mayes, Mr Sinfield & Mr Jones would go to the After Care Meeting on Tuesday Nov 12th to present the cheque.
Mr Hanger asked if Entries could be raised to 2/6 at least. It was felt this is not really wise but will be discussed at the Annual General Meeting.

There being no further business the Chairman closed the meeting
