At a First-Aid Examination of the Rushden St. John Nursing Division held on Jan. 16th the following gained certificates: Misses W. Ainge, Q. Chambers, E. Hodgkins, E. Linnett, and N. Tye and Mesdames E. Morgan, K. Neal, and E. Tye. Miss V. Pingstone gained a medallion.

Ambulance—Following a course of lectures given by Dr. R W Davies to the Rushden Men’s Division of the St. John Ambulance Brigade, the examination, by Dr. F K Beaumont, took place, with the following results:
Passed for first aid certificate, R H Whitworth, G W Bollard, R W Knight, F Chapman, E Twelftree, B L Cooper, R J Page, R E Carter, F W Goss, W H Mountford, H E Bulley, R Sharman. One candidate failed for first aid certificate.
Passed for voucher, T W Elliott, D Dickens, C F Green, R Chettle.
Passed for medallion, H H Tebby, A Thomas, W G Ekins, R A Beardsmore, R C Nunley, J W Houghton.

Volunteer worker John gets a top honour
ST JOHN Ambulance stalwart John Harley will be honoured later this month for 25 years' service to the group.
Mr Harley, 57, of Loseby Close, Rushden, is off to London on Thursday, September 24, to receive an officer brother insignia.
The award makes him a member of the Order of St John,
He said: "This is such an honour and it's a thrill to be recognised."
Mr Harley is divisional superintendent of the Higham Ferrers branch and works as a leading ambulance technician with the county ambulance service.

Amanda to meet princess tonight
VOLUNTEER ambulance worker Amanda Kirk has been chosen t represent the county at a reception at Buckingham Palace. Amanda, 18, of Westfield Avenue, Rushden, will be among St John Ambulance Grand Prior award winners from throughout the country to meet the Princess Royal tonight.
The Rushden School pupil was chosen from hopefuls throughout the county for her commitment to the organisation. She spent four years working on a variety of subjects including community care and emergency first aid to achieve the highest accolade for a cadet. She is now training to be a youth leader with the Rushden cadet division and wants to make a career in nursing. Rushden SJA divisional officer Brian Robinson said: 'This year is the fifth in succession we have had a member chosen for the reception.
"It is a very hard-working unit and the honour is well deserved."
