St John Ambulance Corps

ST. JOHN AMBULANCE ASSOCIATION—The Rushden branch of this Association commenced their studies for the winter this week. It will be remembered that last week it was decided extend the borders of usefulness of the society and include ladies in the classes, and on Tuesday evening 22 of the gentler sex gave in their names as members. Under Dr. Wilson there is even prospect of this section becoming a great success. The male section also held a preliminary meeting at the Board Schools on Wednesday evening.

The St. John Ambulance Brigade
A letter was received from the Rushden Corps of this Brigade stating that they intended to hold a church parade on Oct. 1st and inviting the Council to take part. The Corps were also inviting the Temperance Band, the Fire Brigade, the police, and the postmen.

In reply to a question, Mr. Swindall said the parade was being held on behalf of the funds of the Corps.

St John Ambulance Brigade—The members of the Rushden and Higham corps had a combined practice in Dr Crew’s paddock on Wednesday. The officers present were Supt. Higgins, in command, First-officer Groome, and Sergt. Bettles.

Ambulance Corps—Sixteen members of the Rushden Ambulance Corps attended the annual camp at Horton this week, and spent a very pleasant time.

It will be news to most people that a well-known Rushden man – Mr Aaron Upton, an Ambulance man – was one of the men who marched recently to London as a “Right to Work” demonstration.
