A Rushden character, affectionately known as "Matey" - his real name, Charles Andrews Brown - died on Wednesday at 79 Avenue Road, Court Estate, Rushden. He was 87. For many years he had been a familiar figure in a peaked naval cap, and was known personally to every conductor on the Bedford Road bus route. He lived in Rushden for many years, worked as a gardener at Rushden House Sanatorium, and was interested in the Spiritualist Church. The funeral is tomorrow (Saturday). |
