Advice To Expectant Mothers

Drink plenty of water, hot or cold.
Lemon water.
Eat plain, varied, nourishing food—plenty of fruit and vegetables.
Avoid beer and spirits.

Keep your windows open night and day.
Take exercise in the open air.

Avoid lifting heavy weights, standing too long and over fatigue.
Rest, lying down for an hour every afternoon.

Morning sickness is common during early months. Attention to the bowels and a light meal before rising frequently relieves this condition.

Wear loose clothing and discard stays which press on the breast.

The bowels should act daily. If there is a tendency to constipation, small doses of a mild aperient, such as cascara or senna may be taken. Avoid strong aperients and large doses.

The usual daily bath (which must not be too hot or too cold) may be continued.

During the last months of pregnancy the nipples should be washed daily and carefully dried and then they should be gently rubbed with olive oil or lanoline. the nipples being-withdrawn between finger and thumb.

A specimen of urine should be sent to 19, Griffith Street, monthly after booking, every week during the last 2 months.

Report at once to your Doctor or Nurse if any of the following symptoms appear :—

Excessive sickness or constipation.
Persistent headache.
Impaired vision.
Swelling of the hands, feet or face.
Definite decrease in the amount of urine passed.
The appearance of a red, white or yellow discharge.
