Dr Paine's Surgery 1940

MRCS.Eng LRCP.Lond - physician & surgeon

Dr Bernard William Paine was born in 1905 in the Edmonton area, and married there in 1932 to Muriel (nee Ryder). They were in Rushden by 1936 when they lived at 155 Wellingborough Road. Soon they moved to live at 'Southdene', Higham Road. In his retirement, Dr Paine moved to Higham Ferrers. In 1969 he indexed the note books kept by J Enos Smith, recording much of Rushden's early history, before they were deposited at the County Record Office. [NRO Ref: 285P/272-301].

Amongst the preparations for war reported in this newspaper, there was a planning application for:
Conversion of shed into surgery,
Talbot-road, Dr. B. W. Paine.


The Linnets
No 11 Park Road - now The Linnets - formerly the home of Doctor B W Paine - with the practice attached.

His partners were Dr Clark and Dr Book.

After a brief stay in Talbot-road, the surgery moved to 11 Park Road in 1941, where Dr Paine also lived. Here Doctors Clark and Brook joined the practice.

Eventually Dr Brook moved into the house, before the practice moved to Adnitt Road in 1968 to join the two other practices in Rushden.
