Martin Tucke 1601

In the name of God Amen the sixth day of June in Anno Domini one thousand six hundred and one I Marten Tucke of Higham Park in the parish of Rushden in the county of Northampton yeoman being sick in body by the visitation of God but yet in good and perfect memory god be praised therefore do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following. First I give and bequeath my soul into the hands of almighty god my heavenly father. And my body to be buried in the church of Rushden. Item I give and bequeath to my master Purvye my best mare to chose of the two which he please and also my best cloak the other mare I give to Ellen Kentes his maid and to the same Ellen I give twenty pounds of lawful English money the which Henry Sparrey and Edward Freeman of Irchester oweth unto me. Item I give and bequeath unto Henry Sparrey all my part of land with the crop now sown that he and I took together of Thomas Yorwell the younger of Knotting during the time of years to come in the same. Item I give to Lettice Yorwell one heifer and two ewes and two lambes. Item I give to Elizabeth Horton one heifer and all the debts contained in this book that I give her. Item I give to Thomas Sparrey one bullock and one ewe and a lamb. Item I give to John Horton one bullock to choose of the two and a short piece. Item I give to Thomas Yorwell the younger one steer bullock. Item I give to my fellow Henry Sparrey fifty shillings that the said Thomas Yorwell oweth unto me. Item I give unto John Sparrey one ewe and a lamb. Item I give to Margaret Sparrey the wife of Henry Sparrey two ewes and two lambs. Item I give and bequeath to all my fellows fifteen of my best sheep to be divided amongst them the better sort to have the best part. Item I give and bequeath to Joan Houghton two ewes and two lambs to take her choice out of ten. Item I give and bequeath unto Alice Ferris seven pounds and ten shillings which the parson and John Hewit of Knotting oweth me. Item I give to my kinsman that first cometh next after my decease the five pounds and eight shillings that my master oweth me for making of faggots and my purse with all that is within the same purse and my horn. Item I give to the poor people of Rushden Higham and Knotting the five pounds which John Peate of Knotting oweth unto me to be equally divided amongst the same poor at the discretion of the church wardens of all the said towns. Item I give to Lawrence Wryght my doublet of my back two pairs of over stockings one pair of nether stocks one jerkin that is of my back. Item my will is that my piece and my crossbow shall be sold to help for charges to bring me to the ground. Item I give to Ellen Kentis and Alice Ferris either of them one trunk so that Ellen shall have her choice. Item I give to my sister my desk. Item I give to my sister Jone Tompson all my freeland and copyhold land in the parish of Donington with my coffers there and all things therein contained to have and to hold the same land to her and to her heirs forever after the custom of the manor there. Item I give to my brother Richard one pair of buff hose two shirts one waistcoat one hat with a green band and my worst cloak. Item I give and bequeath to master Thomas Newre my cousin my hanger. Item all the rest of my goods chattels and debts whatsoever unbequeathed I give and bequeath to Richard Lovelis and Ellen Kentis whom I make my whole executors of this my last will and testament to see my debts paid and all other funeral expenses discharged and I will that this will shall stand and none other nor otherwise.
