John Rawlings - will 1684


In the name of God Amen. The Twelfth day of September in the six and thirtieth year of the Reign of our Sovereign and Lord Charles the second of England, Scotland, France and Ireland King defender of the Faith &c And in the year of our Lord God one thousand six Hundred eighty & four according to the computation of the Church of England I John Rawlings of Rushden in the county of Northampton Laborer being sick and weake in body but of perfect memory and remembrance doe make and ordain this my last Will & Testament (revoking all other wills and Testaments) in manner and form following viz.

Imprimis I bequeath my soul unto the hands of Almighty God my maker, hoping through the meritorious death and passion of Jesus Christ my onely saviour and redeemer to receive free pardon & forgivenesse of all my sinnes. And as for my body to bee buried in Christian buriall at the discretion of my Executive hereafter nominated.

Item I give and bequeath unto my dear Mother Susanna Rawlings Widdow Six Pounds of good and lawfull money of England to be paid to her Twelve Months after my decease, but provided my said mother shall depart this life at any time before the said Twelve months be expired then my mind will & intent is that the said Six Pounds become due & be paid to my Brother & Sister hereafter mentioned by even portions or of theire Heires or Assignes viz. one moity to my Brother, thother to my Sister

Item I give & bequeath unto my Brother Thomas Rawlings fourty shillings to be paid to him Twelve months after my decease.

Item I give & bequeath unto my Sister Susanna Rawlings fourty Shillings to be paid to her twelve months after my decease.

Item I give & devise to my daughter Sarah Rawlings all my Lands Meadow ground & close to come to her when shee come to the age of one & twenty years And my mind & will is that my dear wife Elizabeth Rawlings shall use, occupy & enjoy the said Lands, Meadowing, & Close untill my said daughter come to the said age of one & twenty years provided my said Wife continues unmarried all the said terme & time but if my said Wife marrie before my said daughter be of the said age of one & twenty years then my Will is that the said Land, Meadow ground & Close come to my said daughter immediately at the marriage of my said Wife.

And further my mind and will is that if my said Daughter depart this life before shee be of the age of one & twenty years then the said Lands, Meadow and Close & every part & parcel there of immediately after my said daughters decease shall comne to my Brother & Sister viz. to be equally divided between them for themselves and their heirs forever.

Item I give and bequeath further to my daughter Sarah Rawlings a Tester bed & a Livery Cubboard and my own Chest and four Pewter Dishes of the biggest size and the Biggest Kettle.

Item all other my goods & chattels herein before not bequeathed I doe herin give & bequeath unto my dear wife Elizabeth Rawlings shee paying out of the same my funerall charges & all my just debts and Legacies herein before mentioned and make her sole Executrix of this my last Will and Testament
