John Mott 1737

In the name of God Amen I John Mott of Rushden in the County of Northampton Yeoman do make this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following. I recommend my soul unto Almighty God my Creator hoping to be saved through the Merits of my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and my body I commit to the ground to be buried at the discretion of my dear and loving wife Elizabeth Mott with as little expense as money will admit of. And as for my Estate wherewith it hath pleased Almighty God to bless me with I dispose of the same as forthwith. Item I give and bequeath unto my son Richard Mott the sum of forty pounds to be paid out of Personal Estate when he shall settle in the world. Item I give and devise unto my said loving wife all that Cottage or Tenement with the Appurtenances to the same belonging lying and being in the Parish of Eaton in the county of Northampton and now in the possession of my sister Elizabeth Mott and determinable upon her death for and during the form of her natural life and from and immediately after her decease I give and devise the said Cottage or Tenement with the Appurtenances to my Grandson John Mott of Bedford and his heirs. Chargeable nevertheless with the sum of thirty pounds (that’s to say) ten pounds part thereof unto my son Robert Mott but in case my Grandson Robert should die before the said money becomes payable then it shall be paid to his oldest child. And ten pounds part thereof to my son Richard Mott and ten pounds the residue thereof unto my granddaughter Elizabeth Mott be paid twelve months after my said Grandson John Mott or his heirs shall be possessed of the same. Item I give unto my loving wife as a further provision for her all the interest of one hundred pounds more in the possession of George Ekins of Wellingborough Gent or by him put out to be paid unto my said loving wife half yearly for and during the term of her natural life. Item I give unto my said loving wife the rest of my said money household goods and all other my furniture whatsoever for her use and benefit during her life upon this special trust and confidence that she will have this last Will and Testament duly executed, dispose of the same amongst my children in such proportion as she shall think fit and according to their dutiful behaviour to her. And my further mind and will is that in case any of my said children shall die such share as my wife shall out of my Personal Estate bequeath be and go to the use and benefit of such child or children as shall be then living and lastly I make my loving wife Elizabeth Mott and my son Richard Mott Sole Executrix and Executor of this my last Will and Testament in Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this Eighth day of March and in the year of Lord 1732-3.
