Richard May


In the name of God Amen the xxvii day of Julie in the yeare of our Lorde on[e] thousand six hundred and fourteen I Richard May of Rushden in the Countie of Northampton husbandman, beinge sicke in body but whole in minde and in good and perfect memory laude and praise be unto God therefore doe ordayne and make my last Testament containing herein my last will in form and manner following. First I bequeath my soule unto almightie God my creatour and redemer, and my body to be buried in the parish Church or Church Yard of Rushden afforesaide.

Item I give unto the repairing of the Church of Rushden, iiis iiiid. Item I give unto Robert May my sonne and heire all my freehold land and meadow with Thapurtenances lying devided within the feildes and meadows of Rushden aforesaid according as it is truelie terred forth according to my ancient free deeds in a terry bearing date the day of the date of this present Testament To have and to hold the said lands and meadows to the saide Robert May and his heirs for ever. Item I give unto Agnes my wife those beddes & bedsteads, coffers, lynin and whatsoever stuff is in the Chamber in which I now lye. Item I give unto the children of Richard May my sonne late deceased as followeth, that is to say To Joseph £iii. vis viiid, and to James £iii, vis, viiid, and to Mary £iii vis viiid to be payde to everye on of them at xxi yeare of their age, and if any of the said children dye before the saide tyme and their stock be unpaid my will is that the survivers shall have the legacy that did belong to him or her. Item I give unto Elizabeth Hensam my daughter the wife of Richard Hensam vis viiid. Item I give unto Agnes the wife of Thomas Saw my daughter vis viid. Item I give unto Susan the wife of Thomas Barey my daughter vis viiid. Item I give unto Ellin the wife of William Perberi my daughter vis viiid. Item I give unto Pleasant the wife of Henrey Harford my daughter vis viiid. Item I give unto the children of Richard Holmes wch were borne of the body of Johan my daughter and are now alive as followeth to John Holmes iiis iiiid. To Judith Holmes iiis iiiid.and to Agnes Holmes iiis iiiid. Item I give unto the sonnes of Robert May my sonne as followeth that is to John xiid, To Nathaniel xiid, to Lamech xiid and to Eliab xiid. Item I give unto the children of Thomas Barey which were borne of the body of Susan my daughter and are now alive as followeth that is to John xiid, to Thomas xiid to Agnes xiid, to Mary xiid. Item I give unto the children of Henrey Harford which were born of the body of Pleasant my daughter as followeth that is To Heretag xiid, to Patience xiid, to Charitie xiid to Prudence xiid and to the rest the like. Item I give unto Remembrance Burge servant to my sonne Robert on[e] ewe sheepe to be delivered unto her at the next springe. Item I give unto Franncis Bates and William Weedon eyther of them xiid whom I make my supervisors. Item All the rest of my goods unbequeathed my funeral and legases discharged I give unto Robert May my sonne whom I make my sole executor of this my last will and testament. In witness here of I have put to my hand the day & yeare above wrighton
