Thomas Margetts - Will 1606

In the name of god Amen the xx th daie of October in the yeare of our Lord god 1605 I Thomas Margetts of Rusheden in the Countie of Northampton husbandman being sicke in bodie but of p[er]fect mynde and memorie thanks be given to god doe ordaine and make this my last will and testament in manner and forme following. First I bequeath my soule into the hands of Almightie god my maker savior and redeemer by whose death passhen and blood shedding I trust to have free forgiveness of all my synnes And my bodie to be buried in St Johns Chappell in the p[ar]ish church in Rushden aforesaid Item I give to the towne well in Rushden xx d. Item I give unto Knosten burge in Knosten field xx d. Item I give to Agnes Smyth my god daughter xij d. Item I give and my mynde and meaning is that Edward Margetts my brother Thomas his sonne shall have the house in the south end for tenn yeares to enter the Michaelmas u__e twelve monethes after my decease paying to my executors xx s a yeare. Item I give unto the same Edward Margetts foure pounds of good and lawful English money to be paied to him when my sonne shall come to the full age of xxij  yeares, but if it happen my son to die before he come to the age of xxij yeares then his heires to pay the said foure pounds when they shall enter upon the land. Item I give and bequeath unto John Margetts my naturall sonne all my copie hold lande and medowe  within the towne and felds and meddowes of Rushden to him and his heires for ever, that is to saie, one house which I now dwell in with all and singular the appurtenances thereunto belonging which my unckle John Margetts gave me and also one other house which John Weeling now dwelleth in in Crabbe lane and also our close called Crabbe lane close and five lands at the end of the same closse Robert Margetts on the south and George Margetts on the north And alsoe one other house in Sowth end which Thomas Dexter now dwelleth in the house and Closse of Thomas Margetts on the north side and the Closse of Robert Saunders on the south side. Item I give and bequeath and my mynde and meaning is that Rose my wyfe shall have all my land till my sonne come to age if she so longe doe lyve and keep herself unmarried, but if she happen to die or marrie againe then my mynde and meaning is that my verie good friends John Page and John Tup of Rushden shall have all my lands till my sonne come to age and they to bring upp with meat drinke clothing and lodging and schooling fitt for a child of his age Alsoe I will and my mynde and meaning is that if it happen my sonne to die before he comes to age then Rose my wyfe shall have the house wherein I now dwell with all the proffitts thereunto belonging for long as she shall lyve. Item all the rest of my goods and chattells unbequeathed I give unto Rose my wife and John Margetts my sonne whom I do make my sole executrix and executor of this my last will and testament to see my debts and legacies paied my fun[er]all discharged and my bodie honestlie brought to the ground in Christian burial In wytness that this is my last will and testament I have put my hande and seale the daye and yeare above written in the p[re]sence of George Margetts John Page John Tapp Edward Margetts whom I make overseers of this my last will and testament and I give them for theire paines xij d a peece the marke of Thomas Margetts John Page John Tapp Item further my will is that if my sonne John Margetts die without issue of his body lawfullie begotten then the same house that John Wellen now dwelleth in and Crabbe lane close and the fyve lands at the end of the same close shall returne to my brother George Margitts and his assignes forever Item also my will is that if my sonne John Margetts dep[ar]te this world without issue as aforesaid then the house in south end that Thomas Dexter now dwelleth in shall returne to Edward Margetts my brother Thomas Margetts his second son and to his heires for ever.
