Edward Margets - will 1720

In the name of God Amen the ninth day of January One Thousand Seven Hundred and Nineteen I Ed Margets of Rushden in the County of North’ton Yeoman being weake of Body but of perfect mind and memory Thanks be given to God for ye same Therefore calling to mind ye Mortality of my Body doe make and Ordain this my last Will and Testament Viz. Principally and first of all I give and Recommend my Soul into the Hands of God that gave it and my Body I Recommend to ye Earth to be buried in decent Christian Burial at the discretion of my Executrix and as touching my Worldly Estate I give and dispose of the same in the following manner & form Whereas I have this present day made a surrender of all those my five acres of Arrable land with the Appurtenances thereunto belonging and Messuage or Tenament and one acre of land and two draughts of Meadow lying in the towne and fields of Rushden aforesaid which was the Estate late my Father Tho Margetts deceased And alsoe of all those my four Acres of Arrable land with the appurtenances thereunto belonging lyeing dispersed in the fields of Rushden aforesaid late Watts and one acres and halfe of land with the appurtenances late Fishers and alsoe of all that my third part of a Messuage or Tenament containing three bays of building with a pightle and other appurtenances there unto belonging and now in the occupation of mee the said Edward Margets and alsoe All other my Coppyhold or Customary lands or Tenements in Rushden aforesaid to such Use and Uses as I should by last will and Testament in writing duly Attested nominate and appoint I doe therefore give and devise unto my Nephew William Margets of Rushden All the aforesaid severall pieces and parcels of Arrable land leys meadow and pasture ground with the appurtenances thereunto belonging to him and his heirs for ever upon this Condition that the said William Margets shall within one yeare after my decease pay out of the promises to him before bequeathed the severall sums herein after named (Vizt) to my Brother John Margets one pound one shilling and to my Brother’s son John Two pounds Ten shillings and to his daughter Elizabeth that he had by his first wife Two pounds Ten shillings to my Sister Hannah Wife of John Draper five pounds and to Hannah and Ann Draper daughters of the said John Draper Two pounds Ten shillings apiece and to my said Brother John Draper five shillings Item I give to my welbeloved Wife Ann Margets All that Messuage or Tenement with a close adjoining to ye said Messuage with the appurtenances thereunto belonging and to have liberty to lop the trees or cut ye hedge to stop gaps but not to destroy or cut any up by the bottoms for and during her Naturall life and after her decease then to my said Newphew William Margets and his heirs for ever which said Messuage is now in the occupation of Willm Lee Item I give and bequeath to my said wife All that my third part of the aforesaid Messuage or Tenement containing three bays with the pightle and appurtenances thereunto belonging for and during the term of her Natural life and after her Decease I give the same to Ann Bortey daughter to my Brother Willm Margets she paying six pounds to my neece Elizabeth Wapples wife of Umphery Wapples within one yeare after the Decease of my said wife and if the said Ann Bortey or her heirs doth not pay or cause to be paid to the said Elizabeth Wapples the said sum of six pounds with the said terme of one yeare then my mind and meaning is that my said neece Elizabeth Wapples shall have the said messuage with the appurtenances paying to my neece Ann Bortey the said sum of six pounds within six months after the expiration of the said yeare Item All my personall Estate whatsoever I give to my loving wife Ann whom I make sole Executrix of this my last Will and Testament (my mind and meaning is that my said wife shall sow the tilth and pease land and have the crop this year) In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seale this ninth day of January Anno Dom 1719
