Translation

                                         The will of Thomas Mallery of Rushden
In the name of god Amen The year of our Lord God MCCCXLVI [1546] the 15th day of November I Thomas Mallery of Rushden In the County of Northampton husbandman good of remembrance and bodily sick fearing the uncertain hour of death do make my testament & last will in manner & form following First I bequeath my soul to Almighty God and my body to be buried within the church aforesaid before the  high rood Item to the high alter 12d Item to the bells 3s.4d.Item to the light & torches 2s. Item to the mother church of Peterborough 8d. Item to the highways within the town of Rushden there as most need it 20 loads of stone and the carriage at my costs & charge Item to William my son my best cart 3 horses 2 grays & a sorrel a fold Stable a form & 20 sheep Item to Richard my son the second cart & the other 4 horses & 20 sheep Item to Ellen my daughter the cupboard 10 sheep 3 heifers they to be kept at the costs & charge of the foresaid William & Richard and the said Ellen to have the increase of the said 3 heifers until the day of her marriage and the said William & Richard to have the milk of the said beasts for the same space of time Item to Elizabeth my wife one half acre of wheat a rood of rye and acre of barley the best that she can choose in the field harrowing sowing mowing making & carriage home into her barn at the costs & charge of the said William & Richard yearly for the term of life of the foresaid Elizabeth 2 beasts a bullock & 6 Ewe sheep Item to Sibyl my daughter 10 quarters of malt a cow bullock & 4 sheep Item to Harry my son 40s. to be paid within the space of 6 years and a graybald horse  Item to Mr Raphael Throckmorton 6s.8d. Item to William Hughs the elder half a quarter of wheat Item to any poor house within Rushden that has need a peck of malt at Christmas next coming Item to any priest dwelling in the town 8d. Item to any man [of] the same town being in the choir 3d. Item to father George Bradley 8d. Item to father William Smyth my ghostly father 12d. Item I will that my wood be divided between my wife William & Richard my sons In three equal parts Item I will that my beasts unbequeathed shall be divided between my sons William & Richard whom I make my sole executors to see my body honestly buried my will performed truly for the health of my soul and All Christian souls Item I will that William Margets and Richard  Gobby to be the overseers of this my last will and for their trouble taking 20d apiece Those being witness Sir William Smyth John Burbage Richard Druett
