John Lettice 1720

The last will and testament of John Lettice of Rushden in the County of Northampton Clerke first and principally I commend my soul into the hands of allmighty God my Creator trusting to be saved by his mercy through the merritts of my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and my body I commit to the Earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my executor hereafter named and as for my estate I dispose of as ffolloweth Imprimis I give and devise unto my daughter Elizabeth Lettice and her heirs all that cottage or tenement with the appurtenances situate and being in Keyshoe in the County of Bedford in a Street there commonly called Roe Street with a Close or pightell thereunto adjoyning containing by Estimation half an Acre and also one border or piece of ground thereunto belonging and adjoyning containing by estimation one acre and also three acres of arrable land ley and pasture ground lyeing and being in the ffeilds of Keyshoe aforesaid all which said premises were purchased by me of William Coles and were then in the tenure or Occupation of John Mace and are now in the tenure of Thomas Bamford and also all those twenty acres of arrable land ley meadow or pasture ground with the appurtenances [be the same more or less] situate lyeing and being in Keyshoe aforesaid and by me purchased of Benjamin Henson and are now in the Tenure of William Waples and I also further give and bequeath unto my said daughter Elizabeth Lettice the sum of one hundred and fifty pounds of good and lawfull money of Great Brittain to be paid unto her at her age of twenty one years Item I give and devise unto my daughter Martha Lettice and her heirs all that severall pieces or parcells of land lyeing and being in Rushden aforesaid containing by Estimation seventeen acres and one Rood [be the same more or less] and also all those three draughts and three swathes of meadow ground being bond hold lyeing in the meadows of Rushden aforesaid which I purchased of Thomas Mackenness the elder and also all that messuage or Tenement with the appurtenances situate lyeing and being in Rushden aforesaid in the Occupation of Rebecca Wyles widow and also all those two pightells or Closes of pasture ground lyeing and being in Rushden aforesaid one of them adjoyning to the parsonage Close and the other Close to John Ekins Esq. And also all those nine acres of arrable land and one half acre of meadow with the appurtenances being bond hold late the estate of Henry Wallis and all those seven Roods of Arrable with the appurtenances late Jacksons and all that one acre of land with the appurtenances late Burgesses and all that half Acre of land with the appurtenances late Baldwins which said premises were surrendered to me by Gilbert Wyles deceased for the securing of severall Sums of money with interest and are lyeing in the severall feilds of Rushden and I also give and bequeath unto my said daughter Martha Lettice the Sum of six pounds of like lawfull money to be paid unto her at her age of twenty one years Item I give and beqeath unto my son John Lettice the sum of five pounds of like lawfull money to be paid unto him at the age of twenty one years and my mind and will is that if either of my said daughters Elizabeth and Martha Lettice shall happen to dye before they attaine to the age of twenty one years that then such Estate and Legacy so given devised and bequeathed to them as aforesaid I give devise and bequeath to the Survivor of them [excepting all those twenty Acres of land in Keyshoe aforesaid with the appurtenances which were bought of Benjamin Henson and are now in the Occupation of William Waples and herebefore by me given and devised to my said daughter Elizabeth Lettice] if either of my said two daughters shall happen to dye as aforesaid then I give and devise the aforesaid twenty acres with the appurtenances unto my said son John Lettice and his heirs and my mind and will further is that if the said lands and premises which were surrendered to me by Gilbert Wyles for the securing of severall sums shall be redeemed by the heirs of the said Gilbert Wyles and that the money thereon due not be paid to my said daughter Martha Lettice or her heirs or that she shall not enjoy the aforesaid premises but that my said son John Lettice shall receive and have the benefitt of the said premises or the money charged upon them as being heir at law then it is my Will and as I have a power that my lands and premises in Keyshoe aforesaid which were setled upon my Wife in joynture shall be chargeable with the payment of the sum of one hundred and eighty pounds unto my said daughter Martha Lettice and her heirs in liew of the said premises of the said Gilbert Wyles all the money charged upon them and I do hereby charge the said premises in Keyshoe with the payment of the same in case as aforesaid and after my debts legacies and ffunerall expenses are paid if any overplus remaine of my personall Estate the same I give unto my children share and share alike and my mind and Will is that the legacies given to my said Children be put out at interest for their benefitts and advantages and I do hereby nominate and appoint my Brother Thomas Scriven Clerk Executor and Trustee of this my last Will and Testament and do give and bequeath unto him five pounds in Witness thereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the twenty ninth day of April anno domini 1720 John Lettice signed sealed published and declared by the Testator to be his last Will and Testament in the presence of us who in his presence who have set our hands as witnesses hereto Sarah Medburie Henry Harbert John Wollaston.
