Edward Lenton 1842

This is the last Will and Testament of me Edward Woodward Lenton of Rushden in the County of Northampton Cornfactor I give and devise unto my son Henry Lenton all and singular my messuages cottages lands tenements hereditaments and real estate situate and being in Swineshead in the County of Huntingdon To hold the same with the appurtenances unto my said son Henry Lenton his heirs and assigns for ever I give and bequeath unto my son Edward Lenton the legacy or sum of nineteen pounds and nineteen shillings and I direct that the same shall be paid to him by my Executors hereinafter named by four equal yearly payments or instalments and that the first of such payments or instalments shall be made or paid at the end of two calender months next after my decease Also I give and bequeath unto my Grandson William Lenton son of the said Edward Lenton the legacy or sum of Fifty Pounds and I direct that the same shall be paid to him when and so soon as he shall attain the age of Twenty one years Also I give and bequeath unto each of the two children of my son William Lenton deceased the legacy or sum of Twenty five pounds and I direct that the same shall be paid to them respectively when and so soon as they shall respectively attain the age of Twenty one years and in the event of either of such two children dying under such age then I give and bequeath the legacy of such one so dying unto the survivor of them and I direct that the same shall be payable on the attainment of the majority of such surviving child Also I give and bequeath unto my Grandson Henry Lamb the legacy or sum of Fifty Pounds and I direct that the same shall be paid to him when and so soon as he shall attain the age of twenty one years free from Government or Legacy duty and it is my will and desire that such of the said legacies hereinbefore by me given and bequeathed unto my said Grandchildren as shall not become payable at the time of my decease shall be laid out and invested by my Executors in the Public Funds or Parliamentary Stocks of Great Britain or upon real security in England with full powers for my said Executors to apply the Dividends and Interest thereof respectively or so much thereof as they may think proper towards the maintenance or education of such Legatees Also I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Eliza Lenton my household Goods and Furniture Plate Linen China and books to and for her absolute use benefit and disposal And as to for and concerning all and singular the rest and residue and remainder of my personal Estate and effects not before disposed of I give and bequeath the same unto and equally between and amongst my said Daughter Eliza Lenton and my daughter Sophia the wife of George Plested share and share alike and lastly I do hereby nominate constitute and appoint John Radburn of Rushden aforesaid Draper and Jeremiah Fisher of Higham Ferrers in the said County of Northampton Grocer Executors of this my will with full powers to retain to and reimburse themselves respectively all costs charges and damages which they or either shall or may suffer sustain expend or be put unto in or about the Provisions of this my will or in relation thereto and I direct that any one of my said Executors shall not be answerable for the other of them and that they nor either of them shall be answerable for involuntary losses and I hereby revoke and make void all former wills by me made and do publish and declare this to be and contain my last will and testament In witness whereof I the said Testator Edward Woodward Lenton have hereunto set my hand and seal the tenth day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty

On the 21 day of February 1842 John Radburne of Rushden in the County of Northampton, Draper and Jeremiah Fisher of Higham Ferrers, Grocer – both places in the County of Northampton, the Executors named in the within Will were well and truly sworn well and faithfully to fulfil the same according to Law, and that the Goods, Chattels and Credits of the within named Deceased at the time of his death, which happened about the 16 day of October 1841, did not amount in value to £600
