Thomas Lane - will 1706

In the name of God Amen I Thomas Lane of Rushden in the County of North’ton being of perfect mind and memory praised be Almighty God for the same doe this one and twentieth day of November in the fifth year of the Reigne of our Sovereigne Lady Ann Queen of England &c Anno Domini 1706 proceed to make this my last will and Testament in manner and form following

First I give and bequeath unto John Cogebrooke son of John Cogebrooke of Rushden the sum of thirty pounds of good and lawfull money of England to be paide him when he attaines to the full age of one and twenty years by my executor hereafter nominated and Interest for the same from the time of my decease till payment be made at the rate of twelve pence per pound per annum and the Interest to be pd yearly

Item I give and bequeath unto William Cogebrooke son of the said John Cogebrooke of Rushden the sum of ten pounds to be paide him when he shall attain to the age of one and twenty years and Interest for the same from the time of my decease till payment be made at the rate of twelve pence per pound per Annum and Interest to be paide yearly

Item I give and bequeath unto Thomas Cogebrooke son of the said John Cogebrooke of Rushden the sum of ten pounds to be paide him when he attaines to the age of one and twenty years and Interest for the same from the time of my decease till payment be made at the rate of twelve pence per pound per Annum and the Interest to be paide yearly

Item I give and bequeath to Joseph Mays senr of Rushden the sum of ten pounds Item I give to Joseph Mays junr son of the said Joseph Mays senr the sum of five pounds Item I give to Thomas Mays son of Joseph Mays senr the sum of twenty shillings Item I give to John Mays son of the said Jospeh Mays the sum of twenty shillings

Item I give and bequeath unto Ann the wife of John Cogebrooke senr of Rushden all my brass and all my linen and all my wearing apparel and the rest of my household goods and five pounds in money to be paid by my executor Item I give unto Edith Cogebrooke daughter of John Cogebrooke senr the sum of twenty shillings

Item I give unto all my second Cosens one shilling apiece Item I give unto William Emerton of Rushden glover the sum of ten shillings Item I give unto William Woollaston Clarke the sum of two shillings and six pence Item I give unto John Woollaston his son the sum of ten shillings Item I give unto John Right the sum of two shillings and sixpence Item I give unto Katherine Sherman Widdow the sum of five shillings Item I give unto Mary Reeve Widdow the sum of five shillings Item I give unto John Routon the sum of two shillings and sixpence Item I give unto John Maile of Rushden the sum of fifteen shillings

Item my mind and meaning is yt if John Cogebrooke junr shall die before he shall attaine the full age of one and twenty years then the thirty pounds here given and bequeathed to him shall be equally divided between his two brothers William Cogebrooke and Thomas Cogebrooke that is to say one fifteen pounds part of the said thirty pounds shall be paide to William Cogebrooke when he attaines to the full age of one and twenty years and one other fifteen pounds part of the thirty pounds shall be paide unto Thomas Cigebrooke when he attaines to the full age of one and twenty years and if William Cogebrooke or Thomas Cogebrooke shall either of them die before he attaines to the full age of one and twenty years then his part or legacy which shall so die shall be paid to his brother John Cogebrooke junr if he be living and has attained to the age of one and twenty years or when he shall attaine to that age Item if any two of the three brothers viz John William or Thomas Cogebrooke shall die before they attaine to the full age of one and twenty years then their parts … shall be paid to the brother that survives…………………… …………….. ………….. shall attaine to that age Item my meaning is yt if …………………… …………… ..iam Cogebrook and Thomas Cogenbrooke shall all die (yt is depart this life which is … …. and intended by this word die in this writing) under the age of one and twenty years or before they have attained to that age then ten pounds of the money here otherwise given and bequeathed to them shall be given and paide to their sister Edith Cogebrooke if she be of the full age of one and twenty years or when she shall attain to that age and the Interest of the other fourty pounds shall be given and paide equally to John Cogebrook senr and Ann his wife during their naturall lives and to the longer liver of them during the naturall lives and to the longer liver of them during the naturall life of the longer liver of them And after the decease of the longer liver of them then the whole forty pounds shall be paide into the hands of the Minister and Churchwardens of Rushden for the time being to be laide out in lands for the benefit of the Poor of Rushden for ever. And the benefit Rents or profit of the sdame to be equally divided every year on the Feast of St Thomas the Apostle by the Minister and Churchwardens of Rushden for the time being to and between eight such poor persons of the Parish of Rushden as they in their discretions shall think most mee… And If Edith Cogebrooke shall die before she attaines the age of one and twenty years then the ten pounds before mentioned to be paide to her shall be given and disposed of after the same manner and for the same uses as the fourty pounds last above mentioned. Item my mind and meaning is that my executor shall not stand obliged to pay any legacy or sum of money here by me given and bequeathed nor any part thereof to any person whatsoever until one whole year from and after my decease be fully completed and ended anything herein before said or expressed to the contrary notwithstanding

Item all the rest of my goods and Chattels not herein before by me bequeathed and all my lands and all the money yt shall be found by me at my death and all the money yt shall be due to me or to become due to me on bond or otherwise I give unto John Lettice Clerke Minister of Rushden aforesaid on condition yt he shall pay all my just debts and legacys and funeral charges And I do make the said John Lettice Clerke Sole executor of this my Last Will and Testament hereby revokeing all former Wills and Testaments by me at any time heretofore made whatsoever
