George Hawkes 1770

In the Name of God Amen I George Hawkes of the Parish of Rushden in the County of Northampton Carpenter Being of Sound and disposing mind and Memory thanks be given unto God therefore Do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following; First of all I resign my Soul into the merciful hands of Almighty God my Creator and my Body I recommend to the Earth, to be buried in decent Christian burial at the discretion of my executor, nothing doubting but at the general resurrection I shall receive the same again by the Mighty power of God. And as for my Worldly goods and Estate^ I dispose of them as followeth: First of all I give unto Mary my Loveing Wife Such parts and parcels of my house-hold goods and furniture as are here under Nominated and Specified:Viz. Two Beds ^A frying Pan and a Tea kettle and all the furniture belonging thereunto, and all my linnen of all sorts; A Chest of Draws, Six Chairs, and an Elbow Chair, all in the room over the Kitchen where my son William Hawkes lives; and four more Common Chairs, and two the largest porridge potts, a two quart Kettle and another little one – Also a little Ash Table, a Square Table in the best Chamber, and another little Table in the Hall; three Pewter Dishes and Six pewter plates and a pewter Funnel; My Wife to Choose them out of the rest of my pewter – also the least Tub and a Tray, two three gallon , and one Seven gallon Barrels; one Wooden plat(t)er, twelve Trenchers, three ^wooden Dishes and Spoons; and two pewter Spoons; a Tin Culender; the Wheels and Reels; two Candlesticks; a pair of Bellows, two pair of Pott hooks, a fire Shovel and tongs, a Gridiron, toasting iron, and Beaf-fork; a Brass Laddle, a Warming Pan, and a pasty pan; a Lock iron and padds; a Tin half pint and a little horn: Six glass bottles and a large one; and the Earthen Ware and my Books what my wife shall please to take of them for her own use Item I do also give and bequeath unto Mary my Said Wife during the term of her Natural Life all that my Freehold Estate Situate and being at Hinwick in the Parish of Puddington in the County of Bedford, Consisting of three Messuages or Tenements now in the tenure or Occupation of George Rose Samuel Rose and Elizabeth Semark, together with all the premises and Appurtenances whatsoever to the aforesaid Estate belonging or in anywise appertaining or accepted reputed taken or known as part parcel or member thereof as the Same now are in the Tenure or Occupations of the persons aforesaid Item I do also give and bequeath unto my Loving Son George Hawkes (after the Decease of my Said wife) During the Term of his Natural Life that Messuage or Tenement now in the Occupation of George Rose Situate at Hinwick aforesaid, with all the Appurtenances and priviledges thereunto belonging, with right of going to the Well Lying and being in the premises belong^ing to the other Tenements herein after disposed of, without lett or hinderance from either or any of the Occupiers thereof as oft as necessity may require for the use of the Occupier of the said tenement from time to time Item I also give and bequeath the aforesaid Messuage or Tenement now in the Occupation of George Rose at Hinwick aforesaid with all the Appurtenances in anywise belonging or appertaining to the Same unto my Grandson Thomas Hawkes after the decease of his Father George Hawks, or the decease of my wife, whichsoever shall last happen to him his Heirs and Assigns forever. He the said Thomas Hawkes paying out of it the Sum of Six pound Six Shillings whensoever he shall have a just and full Possession of the aforesaid Estate among his Brothers and Sisters then living be they few or more to be equally Divided among them Item I also give and bequeath to my Loving SonWilliam Hawkes his Heirs and Assigns forever after my Wives decease the other two Messuages or Tenements now in the Occupation of Samuel Rose and Elizabeth Semark at Hinwick aforesaid together with all the premises and Appurtenances in anywise belong^ing or appertaining thereunto with Liberty of Egress and Regress for foot horse or Carriage thro’ the ground or grounds of the other Tenement before disposed of as often as occasion may require, and further my Mind and Will is that my Said Son William Hawkes pay unto my Son Thomas Hawkes the sum of Ten pound Twelve months after the decease of my Wife but if my Son Thomas Hawkes Should depart this Life first before this money becomes Due then my Son William Hawkes to have it himself: Also my Will is that my Son William Hawkes his Heirs or assigns pay to the Children of my Daughter Mary the wife of William Chambers the Sum of ten pounds to be divided equally among them ^and as they shall arrive to the age of Twenty one years respectively: in case any one or more of them Shall not attain to that age in less than twelve months after my Wives decease: but if it Should so happen, the Said legacy or legacies Shall not become due till the twelve months after my Wives decease Shall be Compleatly ended – And all the rest and residue of my Monies, goods, Chattels, Cattle, together with all my Arrears of Rents, Debts, Dues and Demands with all my personal estate Whatsoever and Wheresoever I give to my Son William Hawkes whom I also Charge with the payment of the above mentioned Legacies with all my just debts and funeral expences: And lastly I do Constitute and Appoint My Said son William Hawkes the only and Sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament In Witness whereof I have here unto Set my hand and Seal this Nineteenth day of August in the year of our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and Seventy
