Thomas Gurre - will 1557

In the name of god amen the nynthe daye of June in the  yere of ower lorde god a thousand five hundredth fyftie and seven and in the thirde and fourthe yeres of the Reignes of ower soveraigne Lorde and Ladye Philleppe and Marye the Kinge and queen & c, I Thomas Gurre otherwise called bocher thelder of Rushden in the countie of Northampton being hole of mynde and of good remembraunce thankes be to Jhesu do make and declare this my last will and testament in maner and forme followinge that is to saye Furste I bequeath my soule to almyghtie god and my bodye to be buried in the churche of Brigestocke if I shall fortune to dye or departe there at the discression of my executor. Also I gvve and bequethe towards the p[ar]ishe churche where I shall fortune to be buried syx shillings and eighte pence for my burial and also to the said churche for tythes forgotton, eighte pence to the highe alter Also I gyve towards the bells of Rushden churche syx shillings and eight pence and to the said churche for tithes forgotten fowre pence and to the said churche thre shillings. Also I gyve and bequethe unto five children of John Lathams twentie Norfolkes lamehoggs evenlye to be distributed amongeste them Also I gyve unto syx children of Christopher Gurre otherwise called Bocherd my brother twelve Norfockes lamehogges evenly to be p[ar]ted amongst them Also I gyve unto Christopher Gurrye my brother a Sorrell colte being of thage of tow yeres and also I gyve to the said Christopher my brother thre Norfockes hoggerells Also I gyve unto Jane Latham dowghter to the said John Latham one cowe also I gyve unto Willm Gurrye thelder one coote*Also I gyve unto every one of my god children fowre pence. Also I gyve unto the poore people in Rushden thertyne shillings and foure pence Also to the poore people of Higham syx shillings and eight pence Also I gyve unto the poore people of Brigstocke tene shillings Also I geve unto Willm Falconer one coote Also I gyve unto Robert Storye thre shillings and foure pence Also I gyve and bequethe unto Jone Gurrey my wyfe all that my ten[eme]nte in Rusheden aforesaid wherin the said Thomas Gurreye now dwellith and too cottages one agaynste the ten[ame]nte of the said Thomas Gurreye between the cottage of Thomas Bate of the south p[ar]te and the ten[amen]te of John Wedon of the north p[ar]te with all and singular thapurtenences belonginge thereunto latelye my mothers Elizabeth hollo(w)s to have and to holde the said ten[amen]te with the appurtenances to the said Jone my wyfe for terme of her lyfe And after hir decease unto my sonne John Gurreye and to the heyres of  his bodie lawfullye begotten And for defaulte of suche yssue to remayne unto the heyres of John Latham and Elizabeth his wiffe whiche was doughter unto the wyfe of the said Thomas Gurrey Also I gyve and bequethe one other tenement unto my sone John Gurrey now in the tenure of me the said Thomas Gurreye with the appurtenances the Church yarde of the north p[ar]te and one cottage of Willm M[ar]getts the elder of the south p[ar]te And also I gyve unto my said sonne John one closse called the southend closse now in the tenure of me the said Thomas Gurrey John M[ar]getts the elder of the northe p[ar]te And the closse of Elizabethe Gobbys of the other p[ar]te to him and to his heyres lawfullye begotten for ever And for default of suche yssue to remayne unto the heyres of Christopher Gurreye my brother lawfully begotten the Resydue of all my goods and cattles not geven nor bequeathed I gyve and bequethe unto Jone my wyfe And John my sonne evenlye to be devyded between bothe of them And my sonne to have his p[ar]te when he cometh to the age of xviij yeres yf myne executor and supervisor thinke it mete Or els the said John to have the said goods and cattels at the age of xx yeres And furthermore yf my said sonne John Gurrye shall fortune to dye or departe this p[re]sent lyfe before he shall fortune to receive his p[ar]te of my said goods  & cattels unto his owne use that they I will that this my sonnes p[ar]te to be equally devided between the children of the aforesaid John Lathams And the children of my said brother Christopher Gurrye lawfully begotten Also I doo ordeyne constitute and make my sonne in law John Latham my sole executor to see this my last will and testament p[er]formyd according to the trewe meanynge therof And I doo gyve unto John Latham for his paynes taken fortye shillings And also I doo make my trustie brother Christopher Gurrey supervisor of this my last will and testament to see the same well p[er]formed unto whome I doo gyve for his paynes taken syx shillings and eight pence In wytnes whereof I the said Thomas Gurrey to this my last will and testament hath cawsed my name to be subscribed These p[er]sons being witnesses John Watkynson Sir Willm Brasey John Barton Nycolas Burbage and Willm Phillipp unto whome I gyve twelve pence apece
