Thomas Denton - Will 1720

The Last Will and Testament of Thomas Denton of Rushden in the County of North’ton

Imprimis
I give and bequeath to my son John Denton and to my Wife Ann Denton All that My Messuage or Tenement in Rushden which I now dwell in with Two closes thereunto belonging being Bond hold with all and every of their appurtenances and all those my Nine acres of arable land lying dispersedly in the Common fields of Rushden and all those my five draughts and nine foote of Medow ground lying in the Medow of Rushden aforesaid with all and every of their Appurtenances for and during the whole term of sixteen years from the day of my death to be enjoyed joyntly by my son John Denton and my Wife Ann Denton during the whole term of the said sixteen years and after the Expiration of the said term of sixteen years Then I give and bequeath my Messuage or Tenement with ye two Closes above named with their appurtenances unto my Son John Denton and his Heirs for ever and I give my nine acres of arable land and the Medow ground above mentioned (after the Expiration of the said sixteen years) to my Wife Ann Denton for and during the Term of her Natural life and after her decease I give the said arable land and medow ground to my four sons John Thomas George and William Denton and their Heirs for ever to be Equally Divided between them share and share alike

Item My mind and meaning is and I give and bequeath all the above named premises Viz the Messuage Closes, Arrable land and Medow ground to my son John and my Wife Ann as above upon this Condition that they shall bring up Nurse and Educate all my four younger Children which I had by my former Wife, and my present wives two Children Elizabeth Willson and Henry Willson till each of them shall come to and attain the age of seventeen years

Item As to the disposal of my goods and Chattels I give to my Wife Ann all those clothes and Household goods that she brought with her and all the rest of my Household goods I give to my Daughter Elizabeth Denton when she shall come to and Attain the age of One and Twenty years

Item And all the rest of my goods and Chattels (not before disposed of) I give and bequeath to my son John Denton and my Wife Ann Denton whom I make Constitute and appoint to be Joynt Executors of this my last Will & Testament In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my Hand & Seal this Twentieth Day of May in the year of Our Lord one Thousand seven Hundred and Twenty
