John Codgbrook - will 1764


In the Name of God, Amen. I John Codgbrook of Rushden in the County of Northampton being very sick and weak in Body, but of sound mind and memory, Thanks be given unto God, therefore, calling unto mind the mortality of my Body, knowing that it is appointed for all men once to Dye, do make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament, that is to say first of all I give and recommend my Soul to God that gave it, and for my Body I recommend it to the Earth to be Burried in a Christian like and decent manner at the Discretion of my Executrix. And as touching such Worldly Estate, wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me in this Life, I give, devise, and dispose of the same in the following Manner and Form. First of all I Give and Bequeth unto Ann my Dearly Beloved Wife whom I Constitute make and appoint my only and Sole Executrix of this my last will and testament all and singular my goods and Chattle, Five Horses, Three Cows, one Sheep one Lamb, Purse & Apperall together with all my household goods and all my personal Estate wheresoever and whatsoever providing my wife remain without issue by me, then I devise and give to my Nephew Wiles Codgbrook son of my Brother William Codgbrook my Watch to be delivered and resigned to him at the Age of Twenty one years and not before but be in and under care of my Beloved wife till then providing he should not live to that term of years still to continue as her right and property. Whom I as above have nominated and ordained my only Executrix paying all my just debts and funeral charges out of what I have given Her

And I do hereby disanull and disallow all and every Testament Wills or Legacies in any wise before this time named or willed by me. Ratifying and Confirming this, and no other to be my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my Hand and seal this Thirteenth Day of November in the year of our Lord 1763.

and made Oath for the due Execution and Performance of the within written Will before me.
