John Bletsoe Will 1755

In the name of God Amen I John Bletsoe of Rushden in ye County of Northton Yeoman being of sound mind and memory and sensible of the uncertainty of Human Life do make & ordain this my last Will and Testament: First I resigne my soul into the hands of God that Gave it and my Body to the Earth to be buried in a decent and Christian like manner at ye direction of my Executrix hereafter named.

Also all that my Cottage or Tenement with its appurtenances and twenty four Acres of Arable land & ley ground & six swaths & a half of Meadow in Rushden aforesaid with their appurtenances I give and bequeath to my dearly beloved wife for and during the Term of her natural life as also all other my Estate whatsoever goods and Chattels, and after my Wife's decease I dispose of ye same as Follows. Viz. My Tennement or Cottage and land above mentioned I give and devise to my Kinsman William Jordan of Patenal or in case of His refusal to my son in law Joshua Wakelin of Perry to be sold as soon as may be after my Wife's decease to the best bidder and the money arising from ye sale thereof distributed as undermentioned after my Wife's Debts and funeral Charges are paid, (that is to say) To my Kinsman Thomas Jordan One pound, to my Grandaughter Mary Wakelin, Seven pounds ten shillings, to my Grandaughter Jenny Wakelin five pounds, to my Kinswoman Ann Bass ye daughter of Ann Bass of Patenal in Bedfordshire ten shillings, And my mind & Will is that the residue of ye said Money arising from ye sale of my Estate, after the Legacys above are paid, be divided into four equal parts which I will shall be disposed of in this manner viz. One part to my Kinswoman Elizabeth Pain the Wife of John Pain of Risley in ye County of Bedford another part to my Daughter in law Jane Wakelin the Wife of Joshua Wakelin of Perry in ye County of Huntingdon, another part to the Children of Thomas Jordan and ye Survivors of them to be deposited in the hands of my Kinsman Wm. Jordan for ye life of ye said Children as they shall have occasion for it, And the last fourth part to my said Kinsman William Jordan. Also my will is that my Daughter in Law Jane Wakelin and my Kinswoman Eliz. Pain shall be at all ye Expence of my Wife's burial to whom I give all my movable goods & Chattels after my Wife's decease, Excepting my Clock which I give to my daughter Jane Wakelin, further my will is that if my Kinsman William Jordan should dye before his Legacy becomes payable that then his part shall go to his brother's Children and also that if any other of my Legatees should dye before their Legacys become payable that such legacy shall be paid to their Heirs or Executors. Lastly I make Constitute and appoint my wife whole and Sole Executrix of this my last Will and Testament and my loving frinds Joseph Atlee Sen of Wellingborough and John Fisher of Rushden Overseers of the same, and do hereby revoak any other Will or Testament heretofore by my made. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this twenty fifth day of April One thousand seven hundred and fifty.
