Francis Bates 1719 Will

In the Name of God Amen the Twenty third day of May one Thousand seven Hundred and Nineteen I Francis BATES of Rushden in the County of Northton Husbandman being weake of Body but of perfect mind and memory thanks be given to God for the same doe make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in Manner and form following; I give and bequeath to my well beloved Wife Mary BATES all that my Messuage or Tennement I now dwell in situate and being in the Northend of Rushden being Bondhold Together with all out houses yards orchards gardens and Commons with the Appurtenances to the aforesaid premises and alsoe all that my pikle (*pyghtle) or close of pasture ground below the yard being bond hold containing by Estimation one acre with the Appurtenances and alsoe all that my close of pasture ground called by the name of Druel’s Close being Bondhold Containing by Estimation one acre more or less John Gobby North and the Common feilds on the south with all and every of their Appurtenances thereunto belonging during her Natural life and after her decease then to my Cozen Ezra BATES son of John BATES of March in the County of Cambridge but if the said Ezra BATES dyeth without Issue Then to John BATES father of the said Ezra BATES and his Heirs and Assigns for ever I give to my Cozen Edward SMITH of Rushden five pound to be paid by the said Ezra or John BATES or their Heirs within two years after the decease of my said wife my mind & meaning is that the said five pounds be paid out of the said house and closes I give to my well beloved wife Mary BATES all that my half Cottage situate and being in a street called Duckstreet in the North end of Rushden being Coppyhold Together with all outhouses yards Orchards gardens Commons with the Appurtenances to the aforesaid premises and alsoe all that my Messuage or Tennement being on the North side the yard of the said half Cottage with the Appurtenances there unto belonging during her natural life and after her decease then to the said Ezra BATES son of John BATES of March aforesaid but if the said Ezra BATES dyeth without Issue then to ye said John BATES and his Heirs and assigns for ever upon Consideration that the said Ezra or John BATES or their Heirs shall pay to my Brother Samll MANNING children the sum of eighteen pounds Viz: three pounds to Samll MANNING three pounds to Eliz MANNING three pounds to Tho MANNING three pounds to Willm MANNING three pounds to John MANNING and three pounds to Mary MANNING to be paid out the said houses within two years after the decease of my said Wife

I give to my said Cozen Ezra BATES after the decease of my Wife all that my twelve acres of arable land more or less being bondhold lying dispersedly in the feilds of Rushden and alsoe all that my four swaths of Medow ground lying and being in the Medow of Rushden aforesaid with all and every of their Appurtenances which said land and Medows is my Wives Joynter and now in possession of my sister Susannah BATES but if ye said Ezra BATES dyeth without Issue then to ye said John BATES and his Heirs and Assignes for ever

All the rest of my real and personal Estate I give to my well beloved wife Mary BATES whome I make ordain and appoint to be Executrix of this my last will and Testament hereby revokeing all other Wills by me made and declare this and no other to be my last will and Testament In witness where of I have hereunto set my hand & seale the day and year above written
