Francis Bates - 1620 Will

Will of Francis BATES, dated 14th of December 1620

In the name of God Amen the 14th day of December in the yeare of our Lord 1620 I Francis BATES of Rushden in the Count of North husbandman deceased beinge Sicke in bodie but whole in minde and of good and perfect memorie prase be unto almightie God therefore doe ordaine and make this my Testament contayning herein my last will in form and maner follo… First I bequeath soule unto almightie God my Creatour and Redeemer and my bodie [to] be buried in the parish or parish Church or Church yard of Rushden afforesayd

It I geve unto the Reparation of the parish Church of Rushden  iij s. iiij d.

It I geve unto Elizabeth my wife that bed wherein I now lye with all the beding and furniture belonging to the same And six payre of sheets and a Coffer in the over Chamber and Three bordcloaths of her choyce and half a dozen of napkins, Two of the best beast and one Bullock And half a dozen of pillow beares, Two barrells and a dozen of peweter of her choyce, one pott, and one panne, and 2 kettles, contayn treene vessels for her use of her choyce and the … of Chayres and Stooles for her use, and half the sheepe

It my will is, that Ezra my sonne shall yearlie plough all that portion of land belonging to my sayd wife, and carie the grayne growinge on the same, with all labour belonging to the same of his owne proper costs and charges and shall geve unto her yearlie 2 loades of hay in the meadow.

It I geve unto my sayd wife Two score hogs at her choyce and 2 fliches of bacon.

It I geve unto Martha MANNING my kinswoman x li. to be payd within three yeares after my dece[ase]

It I geve unto sayd Martha my second bed in the parlour, and on[e] red coffer and six payre of sheets and three pillowes three pillow beeres, on[e] mattris, and on[e] flock bed, and on[e] pann [in] the kichin that was bought of her father, and on[e] Table in the great Chamber, on[e] Coverlet and on[e] blanket, and on[e] bolster, on[e] brasse pott and on[e] smale pann, six peeces of pewter Two candlesticks on[e] salt and on[e] sheepe.

It I geve unto Thomas my sonne Two horses on[e] sorrell and on[e] baye and on[e] new stood … ... Readie furnished, and on[e] dung cart, and twelve quarters of barley, and two quarters of wheat and on[e] plough with the … …, and all the bords in the furthest loft in the overhouse beyond in the chamber over the hall and chambers, and all the wast[e] timber in the kilhouse at the [same house] the … … and plowes, And on[e] Loom, and 4 Axeltrees and 2 plough beames and six ch..ds and sheathes and 3 beasse, and 8 sheepe and 3 quarters of pease

It my will is that my wif[e] and Martha Manning having their parts of theis houshold stuffe deli…  them, the rest shall be equalie devided between my Two sonnes Ezra and Thomas.

It my will is that my Executor shall give unto my sonne Thomas all such timber as shall be suffic[ient] for the repayring of his hall house nowe decayed.

It my will is that my sayd Executor shall suffer my sayd sonne Thomas to dig soe much stone and morter on his ground as shall repayre the sayd house now decayd, and as often as he shall need

It I give unto Thomas SANDERS my servant on[e] sheepe It I give unto the poor – iij s. iiij d. It [I] give unto Willm FITZGEOFERIE gen[erosus], and Robert MAYE eyther of them xij d. whom I mak[e] my overseers of this my last will and Testament

It All the rest of my goods unbequeathed I give unto Ezra my sonne whom I make my sole Executor of this my sayd last will and Testament In witnesse whereof I have put to my hand
