Jesse Barrey 1655 Will

In the name of God amen I Jesse Barrey of Rushden in the Countie of Northampton widow being sick in bodie by the visitacon of Allmightie God but of perfect memorie the Lords glorious name be praysed therefore I doe ordaine this my last will and testament in manner and form following First I doe bequeath my soule into the hands of  Allmightie God my creator and in Jesus Christ my Saviour and redeemer in whom I hope to have my Salvation at the resurrection at the last daie Item I doe bequeath my bodie to be buried within the Christian burial of the parish church or churchyard of Rushden aforesaid Imprimis I do give and bequeath to James Barrey the sonne of James Barrey deceased one ewe sheep Also I do give and bequeath to Theophilus May my Grandchild one ewe sheep Item I give to John Barrey my Grandchild one ewe sheep Item also to William Barrey my Grandchild one ewe sheep Item I do give to Thomas Barrey my Grandchild one ewe sheep Item also I do give to the aforenamed John Barrey the cowe hovell in the yard for to stand for his own proper use except the pease and ffagotts thereon at present. Item also I do give unto the above named James Barrey five shillings Also I do give to Ursula Weeden my greene coat and a wastcote Item I do give to Rebecca Hall my woollen wheel Item I do give to Elizabeth May my grandchild the bedstead that is in my chamber with all the bedding and furniture thereto belonging Item I do give to Marrey Barrey my grandchild tuo of my biggest pewter platters Also I do give to Elizabeth Barrey tuo of my next biggest pewter platters Item all the rest of my goods unbequeathed as also bills bonds dues debts due unto me within the Realme of England I do freelee give and bequeath unto Marie Hill my daughter and Elizabeth May my grandchild whom I do make my whole Executors of this my last will and testament and also to see my bodie decentlie buried and my funeral espenses discharged and my debts paid and also the legacies in this my will to be paid within three months after my departure Item  also I do make my wellbeloved friends my sonne in law Edward Hill and Henrie Bernard my overseers of this my last will and testament to be performed and done and I doe allow them for their paines herein twelve pence a peece And also I do utterlie revoke and disclaim all other wills and writings by me formelie made and to be of none effect whatsoever In witnes thereof I theabove named Jesse Barrey have caused this my last will and testament to be made and have hereunto sett to my hand and seale the day and year first above written The mark of Jesse Barrey Sealed and delivered in the presence of us Robt. Gearie Snr the mark of Henrie Barnard.

Memorandum that I Jesse Barrey widow of this my last will and testament as long as my naturall life shall last have power to annex or diminish anie part therein conteyned; the seventeenth daie of January one thousand six hundred fiftie four  I do give and bequeath to Margaret Streame my sister my Tawney gowne  Item I do give to Jane Barrey my daughter in law one petticote and wastcote Item I do give to Marie Barrey my grandchild for the care and paines she have taken formerly with me fortie shillings

Memorandum that I Jesse Barrey the tenth daie of ffebruarie one thousand six hundred ffiftie and four taking myself into consideracon doe revoke and disclaime the two biggest pewter platters given to Marie Barrey in my above said will and I doe assigne them to Elizabeth May above said and I do assigne the next two biggest pewter platters to the said Marie Barrey and Elizabeth Barrey each of them one and I do revoke and disclaim the fortie shillings given by me in the memorandum aforesaid And I do assigne and give her in lue thereof one twentie shillings peece of gold and a paire of hempen sheets Also I do give to Elizabeth Barrey twentie shillings peece of gold and a paire of hempne sheets likewise Item also I do give to Elizabeth May my grandchild aforesaid one twentie shillings peece of gold also this done in the presence of the mark of Ursula Weeden Robt. Geary Snr.

This will was proved at London before the Judges for probate of wills and granting Administracons the one and twentieth daie of December one thousand six hundred fiftie and five by the..athers of Marie Hall the daughter and Elizabeth May the grandchild of the aforesaid deceased named in her will to whom was committed administration of all and singular &c goods that were chattels and debts of the said deceased they being by virtue of a commission legallie sworne well & trulie to administrator the same.
