Richard Margyts 1560 Will

Testamentum Richardi Margets de Rushden

In the name of god Amen the xv th daie of Marche

in the yere of o[ ur ] lord god 1560 I Richard M[ar]gyts of Rushden

in the countie of Northampton husbandman being sicke of bodie

but p[er]fect of remembrance thankes be gyven to allmightie

god do make my last will and t[e]stame[n]t in man[ner] and forme following

That is to saie first I bequethe my soulle to god allmightie my

maker and redeem[er] in whom my truste hath byne always &

my bodie to be buried in the churchyard of Rushden be

fore namyd Item gyve to every one of my daughters v li a pece

in money or money worth to be paied to them at the daie of

there marriage And if it happen that any of them die before the

daie of there marriage that then her p[ar]t to be equallie

devided amongst her sisters Also if it happen that they die

all but one that then she to have all her sisters p[ar]ts And if

it happen that all my daughters die before thei be married

I will that all their stocks shall remayn to Nicholas M[ar]gets

my sonne Also I will that my executors shall se my daughters

honestly brought upp or else to se them set in honest

placies until thei be able to rule them selves Also I

will that Elizabeth my wife and Nicholas my sone shall occupie

my farme until Nicholas my sone do marye and the[n]

my wife to depart and Nicholas my sone shall gyve

her yerelye so long as she lyve the dressing of six

acres of barley land and as muche pease lande and the

carieng of it  home to Rusheden & ij loodes of hey redy dreste

and the carieng of it to Rusheden also & the land to be of

my howse land And all the rest of my goods unbequethed

moveables and unmoveables I gyve to Elizabeth my wiffe

and to Nicholas my sone whom I orden and make my full

executors and thei to se this my last will and testament fulfilled

to paie my detts and bring me  honestlie to the ground and Wm

M[ar]gyts and Henry M[ar]gyts my brethren to be my sup[er]visors and

either of them to have vj s viij d a pece for their paynes Item

I gyve to John More and M[ar]gery M[ar]gyts my goddaughter either

of them a lambe hogge Also I will that my (teme nare)* shall

remayne still with Nichlolas my son when my wiffe shall go

from him Also I will that Nicholas my son shall not sell any

thinge without the consent of my wiffe & sup[er]visors until he be

xxj yeres of age Theis me[n] being witnes Ric Dubbe
