Testamentus Johis BICKLEY de Rushden yeoman

In the Name of God Amen the 21st Daie of Maie in ye vth (5th)Yeare of the reigne of our most Dread Sovereign Lord James by the grace of god Kinge of England Fraunce and Ireland defender of the faith and of Scotland the xlth(40th ) And in Anno Dni 1607. I John BYCKLEY of Rushden in ye countie of Northt yeoman being sicke of bodie, but yet well and perfect in memorie & mynde thanks be given unto God Doe make this my Last will and testament the daie and yeare above written in maner and forme following First I give and bequeath my Soule unto the handes of Allmightie god acknowledging my greevous offences and trust to be saved by the meritt of Christ his passion who suffered here uppon ye crosse, and by no other waies or meanes whatsoever And my bodye to the earth to be disposed at the discretion of my Executors. Itm I give & bequeath unto Ellen my Wife the sume of xx£ of Lawfull money of England & fower paire of sheets: Two of which shall be of flaxon and the other Two of hurden, neyther of the best nor of the worst but of the middle sorte and such as my Executours shall appoint And also all her owne wearing Apparell, uppon this Condition that yf she or anie for her or to her use shall after ye saye of the sate hereof purloyne conveighe or take awaye anie maner of household stuffe, as Lynnen pewter brasse or anie cattell or other goodes of me the Said John BYCKLEY which is worth or amounteth unto ye value of v s.(5s) And allso she shall depart forth of the house in which I nowe doe dwell in in Rushden uppon ye paymt of the first x£ (10£) hereafter expressed, my Will and pleasure is, that yf anie such perloyninge taking or conveighing of my said goodes awaye otherwayes then the xx£ and fower paire of sheets as aforesaid bequeathed shall be a full satisfaction for her said gyfte of xx£ (20£) and fower paire of sheets which yf she doth accept, the said xx£ shall be paid in maner and forme following that is to saye one x£ (10£) shall be paid unto my said Wife within two moneths next after my secease when yt shall please God to call me The other x£ that saie xij moneths next after my secease And the fower payre of sheets likewise to be delivered unto my said wyfe uppon the paymt of the said first x£ and uppon her said departure forth of the sayde howse. Item I give and bequeath to my three daughters viz. Susan BYCKLEY my eldest Daughter Mary BICKLEY the Second and Anne BICKLEY being the third and the youngest everie one of them xxty (20) marks a peece of Lawefull money of England to be paid by my said Executours unto my said daughters & unto everie or anie of them When they shall Accomplishe & come unto the age of xviij (18) yeares yf they shall so longe keepe themselves unmarried, But yf they shall fortune to marrye before they shall come unto the age of 18 Yeares as aforesaid, Then my meaninge & Will ys that my Executours shall paye everie one of such of them theyr Saide portion of xxty marks within three moneths after everie of theyr saide mariage And in ye meane tyme I would have everie of theyr saide portions of xxty marks a peece to be put out for their further benefytt and bringing upp of my saide daughters, and be bestowed uppon them duringe their minoritye or untill their mariage by the discretion of the Supervisors of this my saide Last will and Testament. And also my Will is, that yf it shall please god to call any of my saide daughters before they or any of them shall Accomplish their saide age of 18 yeares, or be unmarried as aforesaide, Then ye saide portion to accrue and be divyded betweene the other of my saide daughters as shall be livinge; And so yf it should please god that two of my saide daughters should dye and be unmaryed, then the whole portion should come unto the third that is livinge And also yf it shall please god that all three shall dye and be unmaryed, the whole portion of xl£ (40£) to be and come unto my saide Executours. Allso I give and bequeath unto everie one of my saide 3 daughters; viz. Susan Mary and Anne two payre of sheetes a peece: the one payre shall be of the best sheetes that there is, the other of the hardens. And I will they shall be given unto evrye of my saide daughters by the discretion of my said supervisors, which I hope will accomplishe this my meaninge & trust reposed in them. And Lastlie I make & ordaine Thomas BICKLEY my eldest sonne and John BICKLEY my second & youngest sonne my full and Lawfull Executours to performe this my Last Will and testament, And what other goodes Debtes chattells implementes and moveables whatsoever, as billes bondes or anie other matter or thinges belonginge unto me and not before given & bequeathed I by yes presentes doe give & bequeath unto my saide Executors, And my meaninge is and Will is, that yf either of my saide Executors should dye before he be maryed, or the said chattells or good be undivyded, Then the other survivinge shall have the same. And I make George BICKLEY my brother of Tocester gent, and John BICKLEY of Sandey in the Countie of Bedd clerke and my cosin Robert BICKLEY of Lolor in the Countie of Cambridge gent my Supervisors praying them to take it uppon them, & see this my Last Wyll and Testament performed. And in wittnes whereof the daye and Yeare above written I have caused this my Last Will & testament to be made & written which contayneth 2 whole sheets of paper and this the third, unto evrie of which sheete I have subscribed my Name & put to my Seale in the presence of these whose names be hereunder wrytten.
