Elizabeth Hopkins

Removal Order - 1820

Upon the complaint of the churchwardens and overseers of the poor of the parish of Rushden aforesaid, in the county of Northampton unto us, whose names are hereunto set and seals affixed, being two of his Majesty’s Justices of the Peace in and for the said county of Northampton and one of us of the quorum, that Elizabeth Hopkins hath come to inhabit in the said parish of Rushden not having gained a legal settlement there, nor produced any certificate, owning her to be settled elsewhere, and that the said Elizabeth Hopkins hath become chargeable to the said parish of Rushden. We the said Justices, upon due proof made thereof, as well as upon the examination of the said Elizabeth Hopkins upon oath, as otherwise, and likewise upon due consideration had of the premises, do adjudge the same to be true; and we do likewise adjudge that the lawful settlement of her the said Elizabeth Hopkins is in the said parish of Twywell in the said county of Northampton. We do therefore require you the said churchwardens and overseers of the poor of the said parish of Rushden or some or one of you, or any proper person or persons to be employed by you, to convey the said Elizabeth Hopkins from and out of your said parish of Rushden to the said parish of Twywell and her to deliver to the churchwardens and overseers of the poor there, or to some or one of them, together with this our order, or a true copy thereof; and we do also hereby require you the said churchwardens and overseers of the poor of the said parish of Twywell to receive and provide for her as an inhabitant of your parish. Given under our hands and seals the twenty sixth day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty.
