Apprenticeship Indenture - 1701

This Indenture made the four and twentieth day of October in the thirteenth year of the Reign of King William the third over England & C Anno Domini 1701 witnesseth that Thomas Mackernesse and John Darnelly Church Wardens of the parish of Rushden in the county of Northampton and Robert Richards gent and John Barker Overseers of the Poor of the same parish by and with the consent and allowance of Thomas Ekins Esq. and John Clendon Esq. two of his Majesties Justices of the Peace for the said county have placed putt out and bound Stephen Woollaston a poor child of the parish of Rushden aforesaid Apprentice to Henry Harbert of the same parish Chapman till the said Stephen Woollaston shall come to and obtain the age of one and twenty years During which terme the said apprentice his said master well and faithfully shall serve his secrets keep his commandments lawfull and honest everywhere willingly shall doe he shall doe no hurt nor damage to his said master nor consent to be done of others but to his power shall lett and hinder the same or forthwith give notice to his said master thereof he shall not waste the goods of his said master nor lend them to any person without his consent He shall not frequent Taverns Inns or Ale Houses (except about his masters business and with his leave) He shall not during the said terme play at cards dice or other unlawfull games He shall not by day or night absent himself from his said masters service but in all things (as a good and faithfull servant) shall demean himself towards his said master and all his and the said Henry Harbert his apprentice shall (during the said terme)  educate and bring up or cause to be educated and brought up in the Trade he now useth  according to the best of his Skill and knowledge and find and allow unto him during the said terme sufficient competent and wholesome meat and drink washing lodging apparel and all other necessaries meet for such an apprentice. In witness whereof to one part of these Indentures remaining with the said Henry Harbert the said Church Wardens and overseers of the Poor and to the other part thereof remaining with the said Church Wardens and overseers of the Poor the said Henry Harbert have interchangeably sett their hand and seals the day and yeare first above written.
