Ralph Hall
London Gazette Extracts 1744 -1865


Following Ralph Hall’s retirement as a Queens Messenger, he began transcribing references to people from Devon and Northamptonshire (and some West Indies) found in the London Gazette. After some years he gave up as it was taking him longer than a year to transcribe one year. Ralph passed his hand written transcripts for this county to the Northamptonshire Family History Society, when they were exhibiting at the Society of Genealogist’s Fair in London in 1996, and he transported the files to the Fair in a large wheeled shopping trolley. Ralph had belonged to the Society since it first started, his membership number being 4, as he had some roots in Raunds, but is thought never to have visited the county.

The files came in 27 carrier bags and over five years a small team of typists and indexers, led by the late Mike Streeton, began to computerise the information. In 2002 the information was presented as a CD.

April 14th - 17th 1744

Pursuant of an Act of Parliament for Insolvent Debtors, this is to give Notice to the Creditors of
John EKINS, late of Rushden in the County of Northampton, Esq., deceased, that William HARTWELL of
Wellingborow (sic) in the said County, Innholder, (the surviving Assignee of the Estate and Effects of the said
John EKINS ), intends to make a Dividend of the aforesaid Effects on Wednesday the 23rd. of May next, at the
house of the said William HARTWELL, being the Sign of the Angel in the town of Wellingborow (sic)
aforesaid, at which Time and Place those Creditors that have not already proved their Debts are to come
prepared to do the same, or they will be excluded the Benefit of the said Dividend.

Notice is hereby given, that the partnership lately subsisting between us - William CODGBROOK and Henry
KNIGHTON of Rushden in the County of Northampton, Common Carters and Farmers was dissolved by
mutual consent on the 25th day of August last - All persons who have any claimes or demands on the said
Partnership concerns are requested to deliver the particulars thereof to the said Henry KNIGHTON in order that
they may be examined and discharged, and all persons who are indebted to the said concerns are requested to
pay their respective debts to the said Henry KNIGHTON who is duly autherised to recieve the same - Dated the
23rd day of February 1825.

before William COURTENAY Esq., one of the Masters of the said Court, in Southampton Buildings, Chancery
Lane, London, on Tuesday the 1st. day of November 1825, between the hours of
twelve and one o'clock in the afternoon.
A certain copyhold estate, situate at Rushden in the County of Northampton, consisting of a farm-house, outbuildings,
barn and foddering yard, and about 44 acres of arable land, divided into three closes, now in the
occupation of Mr. John BOLTON ,as tenant fron year to year. And a freehold messuage or dwelling house,
being No. 2 on the south side of Church Street in the parish of Saint John, Westminster.
Particulars may be had at the said Master's Chambers in Southampton Buildings aforesaid; and of Messrs

The Ceditors of William MARRIOTT of Rushden in the County of Northampton, Blacksmith, Grocer and
Farmer, an insolvent Debtor, who hath been discharged under the Act of Parliament, made and passed in the
seventh year of the reign of His late Majesty for the Relief of Insolvent Debtors in England, are requested to
meet at the Office of Mr. ROBINSON .Attorney at Law, Sheep Street , Wellingborough, on Monday the 7th day
of July next at the hour of Twelve at Noon, precisely, for the purpose of directing and approving in what manner
, and at what time and place, the Real Estate of the said Insolvent shall be sold by public auction, consisting of
two freehold messuages, dwelling houses or tenements, blacksmith's shop and premises, situate at Wymington
in the County of Bedford, and a copyhold messuage, cottage or tenement, blacksmith's shop, shed . outbuilding,
orchard, and a close of copyhold land and premises, situate in the parish of Rushden, aforesaid, or such interest
as he may have therein.

Final Notice
The Creditors of William MARRIOTT of Rushden in the County of Northampton, Blacksmith, Grocer and
Farmer, an insolvent Debtor, who hath been discharged from custody by virtue of the Statute made for the
Relief of Insolvent Debtors in England, are requested to meet the Assignees of the Estate and Effects of the said
William MARRIOTT, appointed under the said Statute, at the Office of Mr. ROBINSON, Attorney at Law,
situate in Sheep Street Wellingborough, in the said County, on Monday the 6th. day of October next, at the hour
of Twelve at Noon precisely, for the purpose of approving of and directing in what manner, and at what time
and place, the remaining part of the real estate of the said Insolvent shall be sold by public auction, consisting of
a copyhold messuage, cottage, or tenement, blacksmith's shop, shed , outbuildings, orchard, and a close of
copyhold land, and premises now under mortgage, situate in the parish of Rushden aforesaid, or such interest as
the said Assignee may have therein; and also to assent to or dissent from a proposition,then to be made, whether
in case there should be no bidder at the sale of the said estate, for a greater sum than the amount of the principal
and interest due to Mr. William KEEP, to whom the said estate is mortgaged, and who is likewise one of the
Assignees of the said estate and effects of the said William MARRIOTT, by virtue of an assignment duly
executed by the said William MARRIOTT , in the month of January 1830 (long prior to the said Insolvent's
taking the benefit of the said Statute), in trust for the benefit of the Creditors of the said William MARRIOTT,
and the costs and expenses of the said sale making out the title of such estate, he the said William KEEP may, if
he thinks proper, become a bidder for, and purchaser of, the said estate.

Her Majesty's Court of Bankruptcy in London on the 4th April 1865. To surrender to Henry Philip

day of August 1865. An order of Discharge was granted by the Court of Bankruptcy, London, on the
9th day of June 1865.
