Local Census Figures
Rushden’s Population Increases to 14,247 78 More Residents in Higham Ferrers |

The preliminary Census returns which were issued this week contain many figures of local interest, and the publication incidentally brings to an end the considerable speculation that has taken place as to what Rushden’s population would be.
Local figures are:- Rushden: 14,247 (6,879 males and 7,368 females), and increase of 742 (5.5 per cent.) from 13,505 in 1921. Higham Ferrers: 2,928 (1,425 males and 1,503 females), an increase of 78 on the 1921 population of 2,850. Raunds: 3,683 (1,830 males and 1,853 females), a decrease of 78 from 3,761 in 1921. Irthlingborough: 4,715 (2,318 males and 2,397 females) a decrease of 96 from 4,811 in 1921. Wellingborough Rural District: 12,724 (6,255 males and 6,469 females), an increase of 268 (2.3 per cent.) from 12,438 in 1921. Wellingborough: 21,221 (10,119 males and 11,102 females), an increase of 864 (4.2 per cent.) over 20,357 in 1921. Kettering: 31,220 (14,895 males and 16,325 females) an increase of 1,519 (5.1 per cent.) from 29,701 in 1921. Northampton County Borough: 92,314 (43,733 males and 48,581 females), an increase of 1,419 (1.6 per cent), from 90,895 in 1921. Northamptonshire: 309,428 (149,865 males and 159,563 females) an increase of 7,024 (2.3 per cent) from 302,404 in 1921. Previous figures at Rushden have been, 1801 (when the first Census was taken), 818; 1841, 1311; 1851, 1,460; 1861, 1748; 1871, 2,122; 1881, 3,657; 1891, 7,442; 1901, 12,447; 1911, 13,354; 1921, 13,505. It is interesting to note that the population at the last Census has always been stated as 13,511 so that the increase is six more than might have been expected. |
