Rushden Echo, 3rd December 1920, transcribed by Kay Collins

Transfer of School
At a meeting of the Northants Education Committee on Saturday the General Purposes Sub-Committee reported that the managers of the Church of England School at Rushden had asked the local authority to accept the transfer of that school under the terms of transfer approved in June last. The sub-committee recommended ''That the transfer to the local Authority of the Rushden Church of England School be proceeded with, and that the clerk of the County Council be requested to prepare the necessary deed to transfer as soon as possible.'' The Education Committee on Saturday adopted the recommendation.

Copy of Report

Board of Education

Inspected on 18th February 1929

Report by HMI Mr H R Sweeting

Infants Department

The inspection took place under rather unfavourable circumstances.  Since the beginning of the present term the attendance has been consistently low; the attendances for the past few weeks have been disregarded in accordance with regulations.  In the Babies’ class only eight children were present out of twenty-five.  In the other two classes matters were better, but many of the scholars had just returned to school after several weeks absence owing to sickness.

Despite these adverse conditions it is possible and gratifying to endorse the favourable comment contained in the last report.  The Department provides a thoroughly sound preparation for the Senior Mixed Department.  This is due to the well-planned schemes of work and the unreserved efforts of the Head Mistress and her assistants.  The Head Mistress is to be congratulated on her enterprise in arranging, in such cramped premises, for some training in Eurythmics and dancing.  Some minor defects of the work in Composition and History in the highest class were pointed out during the inspection with a view to still further development of what is already a well-conducted and well-taught school.

26 Mar

I have signed the registers having found them in order.  Owing to illness the attendance has been rather badly affected.  I have seen the Inspector’s Report with much pleasure and heartily congratulate the Head Mistress.
