17 Jan

Mrs M O Allen resumed duty this morning.

22 Jan

Mrs Gunn and Mrs Tarry both arrived late as they were suffering with stomach trouble.  This seems to be very prevalent among the younger children and is aggravated by the very severe weather we have suffered since Christmas.  Because of this HT sent out circular to parents and notified Office.

Letter from Head Teacher to parents

                                                                        South End CP School
                                                                                                             RUSHDEN, Northants                                          21st January 1963

To all parents of Infants

There seems to be a great deal of stomach trouble spreading through the younger children of this school.  I believe some of this is passed on by a germ and the rest due to chills or children experiencing sudden changes in temperature due to this terrible weather.

To add to our troubles the water supply to the lavatories is frozen and they have to be flushed by hand and cleared by the caretaker daily.

While these conditions persist, I would be grateful if there are any signs of your child suffering from diarrhoea or any kind of stomach upset if you will keep it at home until fully recovered.

                                                F C Astle
                                                Headmaster
