Copy of Government Report:- Mixed School The general tone of the school is very good and the children are quiet and orderly but they should show more intelligence in their answering and should take a deeper interest in their work. In the First Standard there are again a large number of backward children whose reading requires special attention, their arithmetic has improved. The Second Standard is rather weak in reading, spelling and arithmetic. The children throughout the school speak indistinctly. The Upper Standards consist almost entirely of half timers, their reading however is good and their poetry is presented with good expression. English and History are on the whole fairly good and Geography fair. There are a large number of half timers and two systems of half time which makes the efficient working of the school almost impossible. Needlework is good throughout. Singing by note is good and the three-part songs deserve praise. The upper standards shall be taught the principles of the Metric system. Clock rooms are very poor wooden structures and are not conveniently situated and new ones should be provided. The offices are too near the school.
Infants No. 1 There have been several changes in the staff during the year, but the children are well behaved and the school promises to do well under the present Mistress. Handwriting is greatly improving in the 1st class but reading and number will need attention throughout the school. The children sing nicely and drill well, and seem much interested in Kindergarten work. The desks of the second class are too high. The last report should be entered in the Log book. Better ventilation is needed in each room. The cloak room is very old and affords insufficient accommodation. Backs should be placed to the gallery seats in the babies’ room, forms with backs are also needed.
M A Burton has passed fairly but should attend to Arithmetic, Composition and History.
A S Dames is recognised under Art 68 of the Code T S Fairey, B A Fisher and
G A Swann are continued under that Article.
