Rushden Echo, 1st July 1927, transcribed by Peter Brown
Playing Field for Rushden
Boon to Intermediate School Children
Twelve-and-a-Half Acres of Land
At a meeting of the Northants education Committee on Saturday a report was received from the District Valuer on the land proposed to be acquired as a playing field for Rushden Intermediate School, stating that he had agreed with the vendor’s solicitors, subject to formal confirmation by the Education Committee and the Board of Education, as follows: The price to be paid for the 12.58 acres of land to be £940; the purchasers to accept liability for all fences abutting on to the meadow and to enter into a covenant not to interfere with the spring of water at the north-east end of the meadow; the vendor to grant a perpetual right of foot and carriage way of width not less than 12ft to and from the land.

The Committee resolved: “That the County Council recommended to purchase, subject to the approval of the Board of Education, from Mr J Willmott, of Rushden, the parcel of meadow-land, 12.58 acres in area, in the parish of Rushden, as a playing field for Rushden Intermediate School, for the sum of £940.”

The report was adopted.

The land referred to is known as “the Moors” and lies between Spencer park and the Hay Way. It is an extensive stretch and is quite close to the Intermediate School.
