Some of the School’s Activities

On the 18th August 1965, 15 girls from this school and 20 from Raunds, accompanied by Mr & Mrs Nicholson (the organisers) and Mr & Mrs Woods, set out on a 10 days School Journey to Germany. They went by coach to Dover and then crossed the Channel to Ostend. Travelling via Strasbourg and the Black Forest they reached Sulgen-bei-Schranberg. An excursion was made into Switzerland followed by a circular tour of the Black Forest. A stay of three days was made at Geiserheim. On the return journey Baden-Baden, Heidelberg and Rudesheim were visited and atrip on the River Rhine showed the party the vineyards and ruined castles that abound. The party sailed through the Rhine Gorge and saw the famous ‘Lordei Rock’. After leaving Germany Brussels was reached via Aachen, and a night was spent in this very attractive capital, before the party returned to England. The members of the party were very appreciative of all that was done by the organisers to make the trip such an enjoyable and instructive one.

A Harvest Festival Service was held in October and, followed by a sale of produce, realised £30 for the Albert Schweitzer Memorial Fund. The girls readily respond to an appeal for help for the “less fortunate” and this Harvest Festival provided an opportunity for this kind of service.

A “Bible Days Exhibition” was brought to the school by Mr Taberner and it was set up in the Library for 3 days so that all the girls could visit it. This was an instructive exhibition and aroused great interest.

The 4C girls did a project on Rushden and Higham Ferrers, and during this visited Old People in Risdene, Spring Gardens and Kilburn Place. They also went to HighamFerrers Church where Canon Davidson conducted a special service for them. They also visited the Co-operative Shoe factory.

A Quiz v. Rothwell School (at home) was won by Rothwell - the return has yet to be played. Meanwhile, let all concerned polish up their General Knowledge!

Violin Class

The violin class continues, but there is present the age-old problem of practising. Parents please note. Violin lessons must be followed by violin practice and only parents can insist that it is done. Please do this. The violinists, cellists and the viola player have all joined the County Youth Orchestra which meets every Saturday morning.

Mr Stockham has commended the following girls for their good progress:-

Violin Jennifer Withers
Margaret Ainge
Cello Josephine Smart

Mrs Goddard, the Music Mistress, has commended the following girls for good progress with Recorders:-

Meryl Smith
Jane Gilbert
Gillian Paragreen
Jean Martin
Wendy Parsler
