Boot School - Teachers

Evening Telegraph, 19th March 1970, transcribed by Kay Collins

Rushden Secretary of N. U. T. Retires

Mr Thomas Major, secretary of Rushden and district branch of the National Union of Teachers has retired after nine years. He has been elected branch president.

Mr Major, of 10 Holly Road, Rushden, is, in fact, a member of the Association of Teachers in Technical Institutes, which is part of the NUT.

He is succeeded by Mr J Hale of Rushden, who was elected at Tuesday’s branch annual meeting.

For 26 years Mr Major had been a lecturer at Rushden Boot and Shoe Technical College and he has been a member of the ATTI for 31 years.

Twelve years ago he was one of the pioneers who formed the Northamptonshire branch of the ATTI, which has developed so much now that it has been split into three different parts – Wellingborough, Kettering and Corby.

Mr J Saunders of Irthlingborough was elected president.
