As a treat for all our hard work we were invited to London for a guided tour of ROSPA House, the Lord Mayor of London's 'Mansion House', and then the Law Courts. The Lord Mayor that year hailed from Wellingboro', hence our invitation.
Every Saturday in the summer we would meet a school, load our bikes on the lorry, get on the coach and go to a country fair: Raunds, Rushden, Irthlingborough, Wellingborough, Brackley. We would wear red shorts and white blouses, and march with our bikes in the parades, then give a demonstation of safe cycling to the sound of Russ Conway piano tunes. We would train in the playing field long and hard! Carol Carr
