“The school work seen on the morning of the inspection reached a high standard. The rudiments of Reading, Writing and Number are carefully and successfully taught on sound methods. The scholars appear to be making good progress all through the school. It would be desirable to arrange for all the children’s physical exercises, free movements and games to be taken in the central hall rather than in the classrooms in bad weather. The cloakroom accommodation for the two lowest classes is insufficient as at present arranged.
The outside doors all open inwards only.”

Copy of Report by L J Monroe Esq H M I
“This large infants school is on the whole ably managed (The central hall is not now used for class teaching)
The two classes of babies are on the whole in skilful hands, the little ones being kept in good order without undue repression. The various exercises in hand and eye training and Kindergarten are fairly well carried out, and the child’s powers of reasoning and observation are developed thereby.
The Drawing in the lower classes calls for increased attention.
The hoppering of the sash frames which are made to open, by the placing of a glass screen in front should be more general, some of the classrooms having no means for admitting fresh air except by opening the windows. A record of the temperature should be kept during the cold season. A strong wind from the north is said to check the inflow of warm air from the screens.”
